I didn't realize until I heard an interview on the radio the other day that it's based on a book - did anyone know this? I think it was called "The Returned". Anyway, no I can't watch this! But maybe I could do the book. The way he described the plot development in the book was really interesting.

I don't think I can watch it if people are going to get their kids back and then lose them again. Nope. I have no idea if that's what happens.
I just said exactly that to my husband. I'll watch one and if it's like that I won't watch any more.

The way the author talked about the book, that doesn't sound like what happens. But in any case, the show looks like it would be way too much for me to handle, so nope, I ain't watching it.
Who else watched it? I'm so confused right now! Who is the preacher and how is he related to the boy? The creepy guy with the hat and hoodie is dead too?

The preacher was the boy's childhood best friend. And yes, the guy with the hat is also another resurrected one.
I thought it was pretty interesting...I plan to keep watching. No idea where the plot line could go.

It is based on The Returned, by Jason Mott. It's an excellent book, and Mott is a really cool dude, also.
I watched it, and they are definitely taking liberties with the book's plot, but I can see why - the book is more of a metaphysical consideration of what death means and how disruptive and unnatural it would be to have our passed loved ones come back (no matter how much we miss them). The show seems to be more setting itself up as a supernatural mystery/thriller, with some family and small town drama thrown in.
That said, I think the show is pretty good based on this first episode. But they are definitely amping up the drama compared to the book.

Ok, the book sounds cool. I may need to check it out. I am not sure I can get on board with the show though. I think since I had kids my threshold for things (death included) has changed.
The two who had died and returned on tonight's episode made their family's happy for the most part. After the shock. Time will tell if this happiness remains. It's more supernatural than zombie-like or horror. We're recording it.

So, in the book, do the resurrected stay that way?
This show plays into every childhood and for that matter, adult, fantasy of everything being a dream or at the very least undone. And this is dumb, but my dad had a beard and the promo of the father coming back to the daughter and HE has a beard kills me a little.
