I lv the diaper on for a decent amount. I'm pt now too so I'd treat a pull up like underwear, change as soon as I know it is wet. But I'd make sure to point out the wetness to j before I changed it.

L only wears pull-ups to bed. She usually wears it until she changes into regular clothes, so yes it's wet - but she's weird and it doesn't bother her and she's never gotten a rash from it.
We only used Pullups overnight, and on the flight we took right after he was PT'd.
In the weeks leading up to PTing, I didn't rush to change his wet diapers. I didn't let him sit in them for a long time, but I wanted him to be a little uncomfortable. He was old enough that he could control it but was choosing not to. I'm not sure I'd use the same approach with a younger child who was learning.
We stopped using pull ups because he treated them like diapers. We went back to regular diapers for a few months. About 3 months before his 3rd birthday he asked to wear big boy underwear like his friends. After that it took about 2 days for him to get the timing down, but he's been in underwear since. All of the experienced moms of boys told me the same thing, wait until they are ready.

I change diapers as soon as I notice she's wet-she's prone to diaper rash otherwise. Partly because of that she hates to be wet. Hopefully that helps us potty wise!
I only bought one package of pull-ups for DS. They had the color indicator for when it got wet. Instead of him feeling bad because he made the picture go away, he thought it was really cool. Kind of like, "watch this! Look! If I pee in these, I can magically make the picture go away! Cool!"
We switched to underwear and he never actually had a full accident, just small amounts that left a silver dollar size wet spot. Somehow we got lucky & he night trained at the same time (2 1/2) and never had a night time accident. I'm sure I'm in for fun with DS2!
DD could stay in a wet diaper forever & not care at all. We recently potty trained and I noticed that she responded to the wetness in a pull-up as soon as it would happen, even in the middle of the night. She'd want to be changed immediately.

I think diapers are made to feel 'dry' even when they're wet, so as not to interrupt sleep. Pullups don't have this.
That's what I figured. They also don't hold as much liquid. They seem to get a bad rap on the boards, but pull-ups were a really useful tool for us. We didn't even go through a full pack before switching to underwear full-time.
Except my 2 year old is interested in potty training right now, so she takes her diaper off and goes and pees on the little potty. But then we have to chase her around and help her put her diaper back on. So I bought a few pull ups so she can put it back on herself.
I have no interest in potty training until we get back from vacation. I'm not doing Disney with a kid newly in underwear, no sir. We'll play that game in April.
