Not sure what you want to spend, but one of my new go-to gifts is a year of Amazon Prime. It's pretty much wonderful for anyone who doesn't have time to shop - Free 2-day shipping - and we'd probably get it just for the streaming video alone. We've also given Netflix subscriptions. You could also just get an Amazon gift card period. She could use it for digital books to read while she's in the hospital, a movie for the kids, pretty much anything they need at home...
Clean their house-- if y'all are close enough for you to feel comfortable running laundry, vacuum, cleaning up kitchen and washing sheets
Bring over some basic stuff like fruit, snacks for kids, milk, toilet paper, Clorox wipes, paper towels, paper plates, etc
Gift card to restaurant w GF options
Grocery gift card
Run errands for her: grocery list, dry cleaning, etc
Bring her kids to and from daycare
Pick up her kids from daycare and bring home w you. Let them Play and feed them then bathe them and bring them home in PJs ready for bed. Or take them for a whole day next weekend.

How long will he be in the hospital? I've done a personalized gift basket too. I generally just grab a nice tote/basket and fill it with snacks, fresh fruit (not too much), wipes, kleenex (nicer stuff than they have in the hospital), lotion, a book of puzzles, etc. and then pop up with it to the hospital. Flowers are a pain in the ass, but people have said that they appreciate the little things I put in the baskets because they don't think to have them before they go or if they end up there in an emergency.
