So I called, left a message, and texted. Then I called again and the phone picked up, I heard background noise but not her. It was like the phone was answered accidentally. Then I called right back after that and got nothing.
WHAT THE FUCKKKKKKK. We have to leave right now for Violet's therapy and she was supposed to come and learn everything.
I guess since it's the first day it could be a misunderstanding? But she should still be answering the phone.
what exactly did you tell her about how today would go?
Since we just hired her over the weekend, I thought starting today might be too soon, so I gave her the option to start later in the week or next week. She said she was fine to start today. I'm looking at the text right now with her hours and it is pretty clear that she was supposed to be here at 2pm today.
I would understand if she got mixed up somehow, but why is she just not answering? Seriously, this is more than I can handle.
Just be careful with that. If you don't hear from her by tomorrow it might be time to move on.
Oh, if I don't hear from her in like an hour I'm going to be ready to move on. But it really sucks bc we took a lot of time to choose her.
Ya I'd be pissed. I'm always a softie and hope that there is a very valid reason that someone neglected their commitment to me, but more often than not, they're just flaky. Did you have a number 2 pick that might work?

I guess the only benefit/bright side to this is that you're finding this out before labor, when you'd be absolutely frantic, and you still have time to consider someone else you met!

She has an iPhone. DST is no excuse IMO.
If she calls and has a really good excuse, should I even care? I feel like not showing up and not calling is just unacceptable. I mean, I automatically disqualified applicants that showed up more than 5 min late to our interviews because Violet really needs to be on time for her therapy. And now this??

If she got hit by a bus? That would be an acceptable excuse. Short of being in the hospital, or a huge family emergency, I probably would move on.
I am a very on-time person though and get really annoyed when people are late.

I'm so sorry.
Our nanny quit on us in the first week, so I am a little jaded still. As others told me, better to know they are going to flake out on your sooner than later.
Maybe something happened to her? I really want to believe she has a good excuse.
