My OB said that running was fine, as long as I wasn't really pushing the distance or intensity. I've been running occasionally, three miles, at an easy pace. Today my prenatal yoga instructor remarked that running wasn't good during pregnancy because it could lead to a tilted uterus. I am inclined to think she's a little wacky, but do any of y'all know anything about this?
I'd go with wackadoodle.il I don't think anything can cause a tilted uterus, I think it's just the way you are made.
That's what I was thinking too. FWIW, I ran until 32ish weeks pg and my OB was 100% fine with it...in fact she encouraged it since I had been a runner before I got pg.
And I think your inclination to think your yoga instructor is a little wacky is right on
I have continued to run, my OB okay'd. I found I have to run slower now, though. I get out of breath much more easily. Also, I have to use one of those pregnancy belts while I run.
Honestly, it's not looking like I'm going to keep this up for much longer, but I'm going to try. I am supposed to run a 5K with DH next weekend. After that, we'll see.
On the yoga instructor front, my yoga teacher told me I couldn't do inversions anymore because the baby could get caught up in the umbilical cord (since it's still roomy enough in my uterus for the baby to have a larger range of motion than it would during, say, the third trimester).
Could this possibly be true? I did headstands and handstands during my entire pregnancy with DD.

Yeah, I'm only running 2/3 of the time I'm out, and it's a slow pace at that. I'm definitely not running any races this year!
I'm still running 3-6 miles a couple times a week and have my midwives' complete approval. I feel great and it's still fun. Your yoga instructor should stick to giving yoga advice.

If your baby has enough room to flip when you're doing an inversion, your baby has enough room to flip on his/her own. I think doing inversions has more to do with limiting blood supply to your uterus (although I think you'd have to be in an inversion for a long time for that to be a worry) and more to do with the mom's balance and lack thereof. If you fall in yoga, there's a good chance you could land on your belly and IMO that's where the concern lies. That said, I did headstands into my 30th week with my first and she loved it. I think she liked the feeling of being "right side up" when I was upside down.
That's really weird. My OB said running is totally fine as long it's not something new and I "listen to my body".
I will say, though, I have been running for six years and have never had a fall until last week. I tripped (which I've done before) but this time I could not catch myself before landing on the ground. So beware of the possibility of changing equilibrium and the effect that can have. I'm just forcing myself to be much more aware of cracks in the sidewalk and things on the ground.

Oh shit. That's really scary. Are you ok?
I have fallen twice in eight years of running. The first time I skinned my hands and my knees, NBD. The second time I fell on my face and broke three teeth. :-#

Ugh! Falling on my face is always a fear of mine. Was that while you were pregnant?
I had fallen earlier in the week at work and happened to fall on the same side while running. So I kind of made the bruise from my earlier fall worse and scraped up my hand and elbow but was otherwise fine. I've run since and made it unscathed.

I was taught to avoid inversions as well after a certain point. The instructor(s) didn't go into the details of why, but I subbed different poses.
I have heard of this before, I think on one of my yoga videos.
In my Pilates class this past week, the instructor said I couldn't do full forward bends anymore.

Eta: thanks for checking
No, this happened about a month before I got pregnant. It probably would have been ok as my face took the fall...I seriously only hit my face, my hand, and my shoulder...still not quite sure how that happened. Thank goodness for modern dentistry--I am good as new now!
Wacky. I ran until 25 weeks when my stomach became uncomfortably big bouncing like that. I moved to the stair master which meets my sweat requirements.
