We have SO many plates and bowls that there is legit no more room in my cabinets. However, I might need to put some in storage so I can buy Poppy and a few other colors I want.
What would you guys say is the best way to start building a collection? Do you buy just a couple pieces and add to it, like one set of plates and bowls. Or do you buy it all at once? I would love Fiestaware, but I have a hard time wrapping my head around where to get started. Also, we have a perfectly good set of dishes for 12.

I started out just buying the place settings. Then I slowly started adding in all the extras like serving bowls, platters, canisters, etc. Now I have no self control and buy anything and everything I can get my grubby little paws on!
Pretty! I may need a few pieces in this color. (I have 8 or so complete place settings, but I hate the mugs, so I'm going try to just buy a few individual pieces here and there from now on).
You can also get a ton of stuff when Boston Store has their coupon for $50 off $100. When the Fiestaware is on sale and you use that coupon it's amazing the deals you can get on stuff.
My mom gave me 8 place settings as a gift for grad school graduation. It was great at the time, but I *never* use the tea cups and saucers.
Were I to start all over, I'd buy dinner and salad plates, cereal bowls, and gusto bowls in a random mishmash of colors, and the larger serving pieces as well.

I have a mix of stuff in almost every color. 80% comes from the factory outlet, 20% is first quality.
Places like Kohl's and Macys, ect. jack up the prices on Fiesta so they can have "sales." Buying directly from Homer Laughlin (http://www.fiestafactorydirect.com/Default.aspx?) is a pretty safe bet. They often have sales of their own.
I don't really like the place settings because the mugs clutter up my cabinets. I buy open stock usually.
Some colors are always available (scarlet, shamrock, tangerine, ect) while others are limited runs. They only have the capacity to produce 15 colors at any given time, so they retire the non-basic colors roughly every 1.5-2 years.

I can't wait to get my hands on it. They said it's close to the original vintage Radioactive Red. I bet it's yummy.
I was really hoping for a purple similar to the 90s limited edition Lilac. They did Lemongrass and Lapis which were so similar to Chartruese and Sapphire. Maybe next time. This is pretty, too.
My cabinets are going to fall off the walls someday.

We started at out wedding and got the dishes. Go for the set that doesn't have tea cups - I feel like they are useless.
Then we added in pieces as stuff was on sale. Out new colors are largely in out serving pieces. All is our dish sets are one of four colors - I think scarlet, peacock, shamrock, and tangerine.
We have added in some sunflower, cobalt, and plum in serving pieces.
People on the Fiesta boards use the teacups to make cupcakes and muffins. I haven't done it yet, so I don't know if you need to adjust the baking time.
I'm going to need more info on this. There are boards??

:::nods:::
DH and I decided to add some color into our lives so we bought dinner plates, salad plates (the small ones), & cereal bowls in 12, 9, and 6 counts, respectively.
We have 3 colors; cobalt blue (navy), peacock (light blue), and lemongrass (light green). We have a few serve dishes/platters and I just bought a spoonrest and a mug, just for shits&giggles. I like it ok. None of our regular coffee mugs match - they're all souvenir-types.
Pretty! I like it. And yeah, Fiesta boards...? As if I need more encouragement.
As far as starting a collection, I got 12 place settings as wedding gifts and added pieces here and there. We don't use the teacups from the settings, but I display them in our dining area on shelving above our "bar". I like the pop of color it adds.
