Experienced girl moms - which type of swimsuit style do you like and why?
I originally thought a one-piece suit would work best, but now I'm wondering if a two-piece suit with a rash guard top would be better (for both protection against the sun and chills). Does a short-sleeved rash guard top seem pointless?
We will be spending lots of time at our cabin this summer, so DD will be in the boat (with a PFD), on the beach/shallow water, and in a baby pool on our deck.
Also, where's a good spot to buy baby girl swimsuits?
I prefer 2-piece suits for age 2+ for potty training purposes. I love rash guards or a tankini top (long) with either regular bottoms or a swim diaper.
EDIT: Oops, I realized your girl is going to be 1 this summer, not 2. 2-piece suits are still great for diaper changes, IMO. Rash guards are great for keeping the sun off their shoulders, too.

I like 2 piece suits, so much easier to change diapers and let them use the potty. I like the rash guard ones for days when we are going to be out in the sun for a long time.
I like a 2 piece with rash guard top but one pieces are ok, too. A 2 piece will be easier if she's going to be in it longer. I only like one pieces if we are just going to be at the pool for a quick swim, things like that.
I've always done a variety. Our whole family is very fair-skinned, so we try not to be outside in the heat of the day -- but when we have to be, I do put DD in a rash guard. I like putting one over a one-piece suit to avoid the potential sunburn from the shirt/bottoms moving around and creating a gap. I also got her this one for this year that I think will be great: oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=54292&vid=1&pid=959118012.
I also always do a fun, ruffly two-piece, just because there's nothing cuter than baby chub in a bikini. And then usually a couple plain one-pieces. But we typically wear those when we're out in the morning/late afternoon and don't have to worry as much about the sun.
I don't find it nearly as cute as other bathing suits, but it's highly functional and allows me to be super lazy the amount of exposed skin that I have to apply sunscreen to.

I got one pieces off Baby Steals last year that had snaps on the bottom like a onesie. I loved them. One was just a strappy top, and the other was a short sleeve rash guard top. I didn't like the idea of long sleeves. We just used sun block as well, and had no problems.

I prefer DD wear 2 pieces as it made diaper changes easier and is so easy for going potty. I know how uncomfortable it can be to pull a wet 1 piece back up after I've gone to the bathroom and didn't want to mess with it on DD. She has a 1 piece for swim lessons but those are only 30-45 minutes so normally no bathroom.
Before DD was potty trained, I put her in a short sleeve rash guard top and a bikini-type bottom with a built-in swim diaper (like iPlay or SunSmarties). For this summer, I bought similar suits but without the built-in swim diaper. (I may still use disposable swim diapers for public pools this summer, just to be sure we're not the reason for a pool shut down if she has an accident, but I don't plan to use swim diapers for the sprinkler or baby pool in the backyard.)

We went to San Diego and Mexico for a week with DD when she was 15 mo--we prefer 2 piece bathing suits with long sleeve rash guards (she hates applying sun screen, so the less we have to do, the better).
I'm a huge fan of the iplay brand of swimsuits. The one piece suit has a built in swim diaper or you can do a two piece suit that is a rash guard on top and a matching swim diaper on the bottom. We currently have a one piece for indoor swim lessons but I will be getting her two pieces for outdoor swimming this summer for more coverage and easier potty access

I love these. I need to find them again for this summer. Her first summer she had ones with strappy tops, but we only wore them to the indoor pool or in our shaded yard, so I wasn't too worried about it. Last summer she mostly wore the short sleeve rashguard one. She was potty trained last summer, and it was so easy not having to take off her bathing suit completely.

We have a variety. Two piece suits are easier for diaper changes. I think both short and long sleeve rash guards are good. Off the top of my head we have gotten suits at Carter's and REI.

I like two pieces for long times and one pieces for shorter times. Two pieces are better for diaper changes, but one pieces don't ride up if I'm carrying her. Dd doesn't burn, but I would switch to rash guards if she burned as easy as me.

We do a mix. For longer days at the beach/pool, we go with a rash guard (long or short-sleeved) and either a bikini bottom, swim skirt or board shorts. DD also has some one-pieces, too.
For outdoor/all day use, I'd definitely get a rash guard UV shirt + swim diaper combo. DD's first suit is just a cute 1 piece, but it's been used exclusively at the indoor pool over winter. For outside, I like as much coverage as possible. Sunscreen is never as effective as clothing.
