So we tried the three day thing while I had some time off this week. He had been showing signs and I thought he might be ready and that it would be great if he was before this baby came but it was a total failure. He would eventually pee if he was on the potty long enough and knew when he was wet but never got to where he asked and it felt too forced so we backed off. I imagine he is just not ready. I'm curious from MOOKS what age your children PTed? I know two is still young yet so many other April babies around here seem to be already. I really wanted to send him to a MDO program next fall but he needs to be PT first.
Sorry it didn't work out It really depends on the kid it seems. IRL most kids I have known seemed to PT around 2.5-3, my nephew was almost 4 before he was PTed.
We are trying this weekend but who knows if it will be successful. If not I will try again in the fall.
We are doing it now and we aren't making much progress, she's still peeing everywhere and hasn't told me when she has to go. This is day 2 so I'm gonna give it till thurs and then go back to diapers. I'm still hoping bc she claims that a lot of kids don't get it until the end of day 3.

Good luck! I hope it works better for you. I may try again in a few months but it's reassuring to see many don't til closer to 3. I think he actually did a little happy dance when I pulled out a diaper this morning.

Are there really that many on this board that are potty trained? I can only think of a couple, so I wouldn't stress too much about it, not that you are. :0) We will be attempting it soon ( she'll be two next week), but if she's not ready, we'll give her more time.

I feel like I would do a happy dance for a diaper right now but that would just make the last 2 days a waste so I have to give it one more day!! If it doesn't kick in I will just go back to diapers and try again later.
I'm sorry it didn't work for you! I think it totally depends on the kid. We are going to try it starting tomorrow. I'm viewing it as maybe it will work maybe it won't, might as well try and see. If it isn't working by the end of the third day we will probably just try again a few months after she turns two. And I think the majority of April babies aren't trained yet so no biggie!

It was the summer after both of them turned 3. Ds1 was 3 and 5 months, DS2 was 3 and 9 months. On the plus side, once they decided to (finally) do it, they were both day and night trained, and have had very few accidents.

I guess it isn't too many, suppose like anything else hear more about the ones that are than aren't. Not stressing over it, just had hoped it work. Oh well, wait til he's ready and hopefully it will be quick. Good luck when you do!
I was talking to some of C's teachers today about it. They have a bathroom in the Two's room, so I don't want to try until she's well settled in that classroom. However, she has to be potty-trained to move up into Preschool next year, so there is a deadline in my mind. The teachers told me most kids there are usually trained around 2 1/2, partially because they see the other kids using the potty instead of diapers. Her BFF is starting right now, so hopefully that will encourage C.
I could really get started on this, but I'll keep it short
I truly believe most kids would be PT closer to 2 if given the opportunity. Diapers are easier for a lot of people, so these days kids are usually PT later. What with all the marketing of pull-ups and nappies geared to older kids, it's usually the easier option to keep them in nappies.
That said, some kids just aren't ready as early as others. In my own family, DS1 was day/night trained at 24 mos with no problems. DS2 is proving more difficult with #2s, but even so, given my OCD genes (that I know I've passed on) I would not have waited much longer to PT them.
I do have many IRL friends who won't even attempt it till closer to 3 because nappies are so much more convenient for them.

Edies teacher said she really helped the other girls use the potty in her class. She was the only one in panties at the start of the 2s class (she was 3).

To me, it's more about body autonomy than convenience. Edie was a late talker. No way she xould communicate her feelings to me at age 2.
Not trying to be argumentative, but my DS1 was also a late talker and he could still communicate his feelings at age 2. He didn't have many words at all, and never said wee or poo or toilet. He did the wee dance and the poo shuffle and pointed to his pants when he had to go. It's not just about words.
I do get what you are saying though. Not all kids are ready.

Hmm if this is telling you need to go we might be doing better than I thought! She started doing the dancing around, holding herself today. She still hates sitting on the potty though.

I think at this age PTing is definitely possible for most kids, but a PTed 2-year-old needs a little more help than a PTed 3-year-old. At 2, they'll probably need help getting their pants up and down, may not always verbally communicate, and need help getting on/off the toilet. They're also more prone to being distracted and not realizing they have to go until too late. Obviously like @starbound I also consider it easier than diapers, though it's different. G has had two accidents in the last several months. One was at the zoo with her 3-year-old cousin where she told me "potty!!!" with wide eyes, in a panicked voice, and peed as I was helping her pull her pants down in the stall. The other was at daycare when she had a substitute teacher she wasn't comfortable telling that she had to pee. But I'm now doing her laundry a few times a month and barely have to deal with poop. I hope it goes well tomorrow! G also went through the phase of not wanting to sit on the potty and we mostly managed with distraction (books, songs, toys).
We will be PT'ing Linus soon. I was in no hurry and was not about to start while miserably ginormous and pg or with a nb. Convenience for me or not, I don't think it's a big deal to wait.

Communication about this, to me, is more than just using body language to show me they have to go. I had no interest in ever dealing with wetting or scrambling to find a bathroom if we were in the car or out somewhere. To me, they needed a deeper level of communication to make "I know you don't feel like you have to go, but if you sit down, pee might come out. Then we can go to the park." Sitting them on the potty without their input wasn't something that would've been a choice for my family.

I agree with dixeedeluxe and @therealmc I really believe you have to wait until they are ready. To me it wasn't about diapers being easier I wanted it to be easier for L to understand how and why we go potty and when we go. I don't subscribe to the asking them if they have to go every 15 minutes.
We potty trained L 2 months before her third birthday. It was the easiest thing ever, she was ready, she knew the feeling in her body of when she needed to go and she could communicate, she also night trained at the same time.
I do think going on the potty is easier than diapers, but I think when your child is mature enough it is easier and more stress free on everyone.
Lydia actually had no accidents during the potty training process.

This. Except for the no accidents, lol. He had no poop accidents, but did have pee accidents for the first day. Then never again.
Also, just putting this out there..I loathe diapers. I hate buying them, I hate using them, I hate their impact on the environment. I would LOVE for Mia to potty train so that I never had to touch a diaper again. People comment that they love the convenience and I think that is silly. They just don't realize how awesome being potty trained is.
Man I hate diapers. That's my real reason I want to PT. We cloth, which are annoying to wash, but I hate the smell of disposables so I can't win haha

I'm hoping if I wait, PT won't be as much of an effort as it would be now. Plus I do like the convenience of diapers.
eta: plus, I don't want to end up w/ a partially PT toddler and a newborn at the same time.
The last part is my fear also if we try again before baby comes. Diapers are convenient but it also would have been awesome to have a diaper free time and only buy diapers for one.

Also a question for those with boys who have PT. He also can't seem to get it in the toilet the times he has gone, it just all goes above. We have the little seat on the big toilet because he seemed to like that better than a little potty but he hits the wall half the time! Is there a trick or just as he gets bigger will he understand to aim it down? I see this as a problem when we go to public toilets. We tried standing too and he didn't seem interested in that and he's a shorty.

I know exactly what you mean. It gets right between the little seat and the big one, and the rim! So annoying. We have a "family seat" which has the little seat as well, and I hate seeing wee all over.
I usually have to point his penis down (!!!!) though lately he's been all, I do it SELF!!! and he wants to do it. So there's been a mess, LOL. He's not so great at it.
DS1 didn't learn to stand and wee until closer to 2.5. I remember having to point his penis down too.
