Ex was in the military and stationed on the USS Enterprise when they were filming Top Gun. The ship was being used for filming during a thirty-day or detachment for training. Because it was a "military exercise" rather than filming (so they could justify the cost and all that) they had to run drills, one of which is known as "General Quarters." In GQ, the sailors are required to be at their stations no matter where they are on the ship within three minutes (or something equally ridiculous) and that ship is *not* small.
During a GQ call on that particular det, ex and his bff were scrambling to their shop within the allotted time. Running down halls, yelling "Coming through!" as they barrelled through doorwarys. Everyone (at least those in the military and those who bother to listen) know that you stay away from the doors and hug the walls during a GQ call. Apparently Mr. Cruise didn't listen. Ex's friend called "coming through," slammed the door open and ran past several Marines hugging the wall, with ex at his heels. Ex looked back to see why the door hadn't fully opened only to see Mr. Cruise pinned to the wall behind the door, nose bleeding. Ex believes that may have been one of those "broken nose" incidents that led to the his lovely Roman nose profile.
