and have to do the 3 hour test. This was really one of my worst nightmares having to deal with the possibility of having GD, and now if I do have it I'm going to be missing hours of work sitting at the MFM for blood testing every week. I'm already so far behind on my work and if I have to be out hours every week for doctors appointments until June I don't know what I'm going to do. Fuck fuck fuck.

I failed my 1 hour and passed my 3 hour with flying colors my first pregnancy. A lot of women fail the one hour. Chin up. Think positive and good luck this is the case for you.
Lots of people fail the 1hr and pass the 3hr. Get through the 3hr and take it from there.
I had GD last time and while I had two extra MFM visits immediately after diagnosis, they were rather quick and didn't involve blood draws. Why do you think you'll have to spend hours weekly at the MFM?
I'm sorry! Fwiw, I know about 5 ppl irl who failed the 1 hour but passed the 3 hour. Try not to worry too much yet. Do you have a work laptop you could take with you to the 3 hour appt while we wait? Not the same as being in the office, I know, but may help a little bit.
I'm sorry I failed the 1 hour and the 3 hour and here I am, GD at 21 weeks. But truly, a lot of women fail the 1 hour and pass the 3 hour no problem. You will most likely be one of them. A couple of things. Ask your doctor if you can take the 3 hour at the lab. I was able to do this on a Saturday instead of having to be at my Dr.'s office for 3 hours during the work week. They were fine with it. Also, if you are diagnosed, that doesn't necessarily mean hours at the MFM. Right now I am diet and exercise controlled. My Dr. made weekly appointments for me, however my numbers have looked good and she moved me to every other week, with faxing in my numbers in between. Even if you are diagnosed and even if the every other week doesn't become an option, don't stress. The appointments are super quick. Like, pee in a cup, weigh you, they ask you questions, review numbers, listen to heartbeat, out.
Easier said than done, but try not to stress about it right now. If you are GD, there are some amazing resources right here on this board, and in many other places out there to help. I've learned so much just in the last 3 weeks. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that the 3 hour goes smoothly. If you have questions or anything let me know!

Because the ob already told me if I do have GD, I'll have to go to the MFM that they sent me to for my NT scan and anatomy scans for testing, either once weekly or twice weekly for blood testing. I know from going to this MFM for the scans, talking to other patients there and the nurses, the wait can be up to 3 hours even when you have an appointment to just get your blood drawn weekly for the GD testing.
Apparently this MFM is one of the worst in the area for having to wait, but the ob said all of the MFMs in the area have long wait times.

First, a lot of people fail their one hour and pass their three hour. I did. But I understand your freak out because I had a total freak out when I got my one hour results.
Second, there are likely alternatives to going to the MFM for blood testing. I know my practice has you test daily with a meter like someone with regular diabetes. You could always tell them that you just can't miss that many hours of work, so can you do something like a home blood monitor instead.

I'm surprised they would make you got to the MFM for actual blood testing when you can just monitor your glucose with a home meter... But each practice is different I guess.
If you have to go to the MFM, if it's done on a first come first serve basis, can you try to go first thing in the morning?
I would definitely ask about a meter for monitoring at home. I get that each practice differs, but testing only once or twice a week sounds rather odd and ineffective quite frankly.
I'm also surprised to hear they would make you go weekly or bi-weekly for blood testing at the MFM. I know 3 girls in "real life" and have read countless things online since I was diagnosed, and haven't come across anyone who has had to do blood testing in office. I was given a meter by the diabetes nurse when I had my class after my diagnosis. I test my blood 4 times per day, and record it in a log that I turn in or fax in to my Dr. each week. This seems pretty standard across the board. I haven't had to have any in-office blood testing at all. If you are diagnosed, which is still a huge if at this point, hopefully other arrangements can be made to accommodate your work schedule. It's really stressful to have to schedule all these appointments during the work day for sure.

Hopefully you will pass the 3 hour. I have GD and so far it hasn't been a big deal. I've been able to control it with diet. I will have some extra NSTs toward the end and a possible u/s, but other than a one-time class on using the meter and a meeting with the dietician, my appointments have been the same amount and length as they would be without GD.
Is using a meter an option? It's a little bit of a pain, but really easy to use. I just go over my numbers with my ob when I come in for regular visits.

This was me exactly. Failed by 11 points, and the 3hr with flying colors.

Thanks everyone. I feel silly for freaking out, I've been so stressed lately about work, this just seemed like one more thing to deal with and have to worry about. I'm going to take the advice here and if i fail the 3 hour I'll ask if I can monitor at home and not go to the mfm so often because it will be detrimental to miss so much work in the next few months. (Another lady is going to quit any day now so I may have even more work to do soon). June feels so far away right now!

Don't feel silly, it freaking sucks to get that phone call. I think I cried more when they told me I failed the one hour than the three hour! Take care of yourself, and hopefully the three hour will go smoothly. Good luck!
