I painted the exterior for 2 hours yesterday - as I'm finishing, little droplets of rain start coming down. I"m praying it's just a few drops. Shortly thereafter, the sky opened up and it poured buckets. I checked the forecast - clouds, no rain. FML.
Also, FIL is driving me nuts. He's helping with some little projects around the house. Our contractor stopped by yesterday and my FIL said they got into an altercation. This is the owner of the company, and he's a very nice, soft-spoken guy. FML, seriously FIL?
I'm sorry. :-( I'd be telling FIL we don't need his help anymore. There's a line he crossed trying to be helpful when he was actually causing trouble. This is my MIL. She thinks she's helping, but actually screws it up and creates more work for me later. Argh!
I've already complained about mine, but it was a big FML moment this weekend when we realized that when we ripped out the bathroom laminate floor, there was a ton of mildew + old vinyl linoleum under there, plus we unexpectedly had to redo the exterior walls too.
My only home based complaint right now is that I wrote down the wrong date for our real estate taxes. I had it in my head that they were due July 10th not June 5th, so yeah I had to pay an extra $300 in late fees on top of the regular real estate taxes... Completely my fault and I should have checked it but damn it sucks.

Something is wrong with the pump for our septic system but the septic guys can't figure out what ... and they've been here twice. I'm just hopeful we won't wind up with a serious septic issue as a result, because we have to turn our sand filter completely off at night so that the pump doesn't burn itself out and the alarm won't go off.

Thanks guys - I'm going to take a closer look at the paint this afternoon. I think our contractor felt bad - I left him a message and said 'no worries.' Fortunately, the job is supposed to be done by tomorrow.
I feel for you on the other house issues. Susie - that's just a shame about the floor.

(Lurker...)
This isn't a big deal but we are going to paint our master bedroom (finally!) this weekend. It is a pretty big room with high ceilings and I'd like to ask my MIL and SIL to help. They LOVE painting, are really good at it and don't do anything on weekends. My husband refuses to allow them to help. He thinks we should just do it ourselves although having two more bodies to help would get the job done really, really fast.
His sister and brother helped paint other rooms in our house before we moved in so I'm not really sure what the big deal is. I pretty much suck at painting and I know that if we try to do it with just the two of us, we won't get it done this weekend.
Another FML from yesterday - I finally set on what should be a successful approach to mouting our shutters to our bricks. We're using wooden dowels like the previous homeowner - not ideal, but 3 other approaches have failed.
So I start hand sawing dowels, gently hammering them into the mortar, caulk the edges to keep moisture and bugs out. I predrilled a hole - it didn't seem too tough so I decided to drive the screws in w/o pre drilling. Here's the lesson - never re-use old aluminum screws. After driving in two screws, the head on the third snapped off. I had to take the whole shutter and pegs out, and start over. So I drilled a pilot hole before proceeding. Then I proceeded to strip the next two screws (my drill gun was on low torque, but drilling the heads of these screws was like drilling refrigerated peanutbutter). I took it all down again.
At that point, I had to walk away. I'll buy new screws today, and drill pilot holes. I pray to God this works or I might lose it.
