Go to your annual appts with your general practitioner? I had a pap with my ob but I have my annual scheduled next week with my GP. It's been scheduled for a while but I am wondering if I should cancel.
At my last appointment I mentioned to my GP that we were trying. She said to cancel any appointments during the pregnancy but to make one after baby arrived.

Strangely, I don't have a GP. I've been going to my OBGYN for the last couple of years for any sort of check up. (And I never get sick.) I've had more problems with my lady parts, than any other part of my body, so it just made sense to see her more often. So I would say to just call and ask.
I would. At my first OB appointment for pregnancy they did a pap & a standard exam.
This for me too.
I thought it was crazy, but did it anyhow. The doctor said if you have any STDs & give birth vaginally you could blind the baby. My thought was buddy if I have something you guys would have known through all the fertility treatments & millions of tests we went through. It was a joke with DH & my BFF when the results came back I was STD free. Nooooo kidding folks. So that is why they push for paps when your pregnant. Lol

Apparently my doctor still wants me to come in because I haven't been in 2 years. We'll skip the gyn exam. She wants to talk about my asthma and what not. Oh well.
Forgive me if this is a stupid question but I am confused.
I have a PCP who I go to when there is something that needs checking that is not lady-part related. I do not have an annual wellness visit with my PCP, though I should I just don't. But I see them for things like illness, allergies, asthma, etc.
Then I have an OBGYN that I go to for all lady part issues and have an annual exam, especially for a pap. I would never see them for other issues that are not reproductive issues and now that I'm pregnant I see them for all prenatal care.
Do PCPs do GYN exams? Or am I reading this thread wrong?

Huh??? A pap is not an std test. It is a screen for cancerous or precancerous cells. Unrelated to paps, there are also STDs that can be asymptomatic (and have zero impact on fertility) and transferred to your child either in utero or during birth, so of course they also recommend an std panel.
Odonata, some pcps will do very basic gyn-related tests as part of a physical -- pap, internal, breast exam. But if there were a specific issue, they would refer you out.
To answer the OP, I had my pap at my first pregnancy visit with my ob, but I will absolutely see my PCP when it comes time for my annual check-up. Especially when health care pays for it, I am a huge proponent of regular maintenance dr visits. I have enough evidence in my life of people who are still alive because something potentially fatal was caught early due to routine exams.
Ohhh. Maybe I didn't know because I was recommended to an OBGYN before I was old enough to really need one due to cysts when I was in middle school. I guess I just kept going to my OBGYN for annual check up since then.

They did a pap & std tests.
I get that. My "huh??" was for your comment that it was crazy for them to do these tests, or think it was ha ha funny.
You can easily have developed cervical cancer since your last pap. You could also very easily have been asymptomatic for an std that would never be part of IF workup. You could have HIV or herpes that would require prenatal medical treatment to prevent passage of the disease (which could be fatal, not just cause blindness). Nothin crazy about any of that.

Yeah I just got another work up too for STDs and a pap and I also had extensive testing for all my IF. But it's true that many STDs lay dormant so constant screening is best.
What I thought was redundant was to send me for blood work yesterday for ABO, rH, and CF when I already had those done and on record twice within the past year: at the IF place and at my OB. Those never change.

No. I mainly go to the PCP for refills on my medications, but I went off them early in pregnancy. I was referred to follow up with my PCP following some abnormal lab results my OB ordered after she ruled out to make sure it wasn't pregnancy related.
