Ugh, I don't know. He's not spitting up blood anymore but will barely eat. I just pumped 14oz and pumped another 6oz a few hours ago. He can't be put down and is really uncomfortable. We are STILL waiting on his medicine (from 10AM!). It has been bounced around to three different pharmacies and we keep being told one more hour. I feel so awful for him. I have never heard a baby cry this desperately. I don't know if it is something I ate or what. We smelled the milk my H gave him in the MOTN and it did smell a little off compared to super fresh BM. My H started to cry because he's afraid he fed him bad milk.

Aww! Poor Eav family that really sucks about the medicine! I doubt this would just be from "sort of" bad milk- I think it would have to be absolutely awful and you would know if you smelled it- even then, I doubt that's the cause. Hugs for everyone!
How old is he? Lily had a massive flare up of reflux around 14/15 weeks and a nursing strike. She wouldn't stop screaming. If you need tips of what I did I can share them, if you think it would help.

Omg, yes please and thank you. He's about 9 weeks old. He's nursing better than this morning but he like thrusts like he's air humping (sorry, I don't know else to explain it).

Oh I hope you get the med figured out and he feels better soon.
Only our compounding pharmacy will make Prevacid/ Prilosec compound. From my experience, it takes a week or two to start working and the compound only seems to last 2 weeks for us, so we only get two weeks at time and it is weight sensitive.

According to L's Dr. And the book Colic Solved (which helped me understand what was happening) reflux peaks around 12 weeks so you are probably leading up to that. The acid starts to hurt the baby as they nurse (usually after letdown when the milk isn't coming as quickly). I know what you're describing by thrusting. Does he arch his back, squirm, pull away from you, cry, clench fists or scratch you? This is what Lily did and I could use her actions to tell me how bad her reflux was flaring. I remember just wanting her to nurse so badly and not knowing why she was screaming. Here are the things that worked for us: -bouncing on the yoga ball and holding her on her side, shushing too sometimes. -if she would nurse do an elevated football hold with pillows so the acid can't come up as much. -baths helped a lot. I would take a bath with her and do skin to skin. This helped get her to nurse again if she was on her belly on my belly. She would latch on her own, don't force it. -walking around holding her on her side. -walking her up and down the stairs. - if it turns into a real nursing strike don't panic. You can get him back to breast. Start with one session at a time, middle of the night first when he's most sleepy and won't fight you as much. Offer the breast first and then if he won't latch give a bottle. You can also hold the bottle near your breast and then try to get him to latch when he's calmed down. -the new meds. will take some time to work. Usually about a week. Ask his Dr if he needs more of the Zantac because he weighs more now, it's very weight sensitive. - above all know you are doing an amazing job! I wish I could give you a hug. this will pass and you will get through it. Lily's still nursing despite all if our struggles. I hope some of this can help you. Let me know if you ever need to talk, I've been there!

Thank you so so so much. You have me near tears (in a good way)!!! I feel so defeated but you've given really wonderful suggestions. I feel awful because I've stupidly been giving the zantac on an as needed basis. I bet he's been struggling all along more than I know. Thank you thank you THANK YOU.
luke had bad reflux and would only nurse at night after 3 months when he was half asleep. it was horrible and i EP'd. he had silent reflux so it was hard to know how bad it was It sounds like PP has some better ideas.

good luck! i hope it helps him
O nursed better tonight when half asleep and during a dream feed. In general has taken bottles better during the day. I will EP if need be but I am so lazy. I feel helpless. I know none of this is the end of the world but I feel like I'm dealing with a baby I don't know now and like I have to relearn his needs. It's stupid I feel this way.
I'm so sorry that you guys are going through this. I didn't read all of the responses, but could he be having an intolerance issue to something that you are eating? Maybe maybe his reflux worse? I hope the meds helps a lot!

I was actually going to PM you on FB. I really need to question this aspect as I think there could be something going on. I will PM you tomorrow because I have questions, if that is okay.
eav2c you're so welcome. I hope some of that can help you. I felt so alone and helpless when we were going through it and now I feel passionate about supporting other moms who are going through it too. Smellycat brought up a good point too, about intolerances. Lily was, still is, allergic to milk proteins so I cut all dairy when she was 8 weeks. This helped a lot but takes about 5 weeks to totally clear out. It's worth a try if you think it might help! Her poop was the main marker for that, it was full of mucous and had some blood (tested by her dr wasn't visible to the eye). I hope you are all doing better today! Big hugs!

Hey sweetie, you've got some really great tips already! A had bad reflux too, and we did a lot of what you've ben suggested too. The bath thing, skin to skin, and cross cradle hold in there really helped. We had A sleep elevated in a bouncer seat every night until she was 6 months or so, and that helped too. I had to eliminate acidic and spicy things. She also did really bad with lots of beans and gassy foods too. I saw a marked difference in her after taking those things out. I'm not sure where you guys go, but we were seen by a pediatric gastroenterologist out of Vanderbilt and they were WONDERFUL. Highly recommend. A did grow out of the reflux too, so there's hope for that. But PP's are right, Zantac is very weight senstive, so it can be adjusted as he grows to give him the best possible relief. After a week straight of taking it, she was like a whole new baby. If you need anything, let me know!! (Heart)
