I'm so angry at the evangelical community, I can't even see straight. And I was raised evangelical and until recently have faithfully been very involved in an evangelical church. This sort of thing is the reason why I'm not going to church anymore and am seriously re-evaluating things.
Less than two days after international poverty ministry World Vision announced it would allow its American branch to hire employees in same-sex marriages, the Christian group is reportedly set to reverse its decision.
Board member Stephen Hayner, president of Columbia Theological Seminary, replied to an email inquiry from WORLD this afternoon concerning the outcry from evangelicals over the original decision: “The Board of World Vision is just concluding a meeting and will be releasing a statement shortly reversing the decision that was made. It was never the intention of the Board to undermine our firm commitment to the authority of the Scripture.”
Over the past two days, many major Christian leaders, churches, and evangelical bloggers had responded with shock and dismay over the group’s decision to embrace the unbiblical practice, and some Christians had wondered whether they could continue supporting the group’s popular child sponsorship program.
Well that certainly didn't last long. When I first heard about it I'll admit I checked the calendar to make sure it wasn't April Fool's - so I guess the reversal shouldn't come as a shock. Seems sort of weird though to make a giant announcement just to reverse the decision a couple days later. Might want to think things through a bit more next time.

I also take issue with the phrasing and use of the word unbiblical - where in the bible does is say that thou shall not hire gay people?

Yeah, that really pissed me off. And made me cry.
You might be interested in Rachel Held Evans' book "A Year of Biblical Womanhood". She addresses this misuse of "biblical/unbiblical" to show just how picky and choosy Christians are when deciding what "biblical" things they'll make rules out of and which ones they'll conveniently leave out.
Sigh. Posted on my news feed - I am not surprised.
So often people and organizations within the church err and turn a deaf ear to correction, I'm glad to see this is not one of those times. Worldvision made a huge mistake and I'm really glad to see that they are correcting the matter. Being open to correction is something we all need to emulate.

Shame on them. Both sides. By refusing to call the fundie's bluff (because I really doubt they'd have all pulled their funding), they allow hate to win, and give those asshole bigots more power.

Are you good friends with this person? Because it would take everything in me not to respond "Being open and loving of all is something we all need to emulate as well."
I say this in every thread related to this topic, but I still cannot wrap my head around the idea that my kids are going to be studying this shit some day. It's simply astounding.
