So I've been debating about going back to our hometown for J's first birthday. And I had pretty much decided we should go for it, as all of our family live OOT and most are clustered there.
AND NOW THERE'S AN EFFING MUMPS OUTBREAK.
No.
Even people who have received a dose of the vaccine have gotten it, so even if J got her MMR before we went, there's just no guarantees.*
And we would be going in less than two months, so I am not sure it would be over. Sigh.
Maybe we should just stay here after all, but I am seriously bummed.
Oh, that really, really sucks. I am sorry you're faced with making this decision. I'm sure your family will be just as happy to see J if you fly out at a later point once the mumps outbreak is under control. But I completely understand that it's disappointing. I skipped a trip to see family because of a cholera outbreak and still feel bummed about it.
I do understand that we can go another time and it's not the end of the world. I'm just really down about it.
It has been a tough year for my parents health wise. My mom was in the hospital for stomach pain and was diagnosed with a chronic condition. My dad was diagnosed with a heart problem that they can't correct. And then was in the ER for a separate issue.
And totally fwp: I was hoping to use our wedding photographer to get family pictures (I love her work and the newborn pictures we had done here were just ok for me).

lolo NO! I'm so sorry to hear this news. Mostly because I know you were tossing the idea around, and sounded so keen to go, but also because it's just yet another stupidfuckingthing to come of the whole "anti-vaxers". I'm upset for you and J.
