I know you are supposed to cut down or even try to cut out caffeine when pregnant. Its killing me! I used to be a HEAVY coffee drinker. Now I have one in the morning. How do you control the exhaustion?
I was drinking one cup of coffee in the AM and that was not even helping me at all. By 10 a.m. I would be tired again. I stopped coffee from a UTI I had a few weeks ago I don't really feel a need to return as I know it will not really help with the exhaustion at all.
I found that the caffeine didn't even really HELP the exhaustion because the exhaustion is honestly hormonal in first tri.
The only thing that made me feel less tired was sleeping, LOL. I was in bed by 7 or 8 most nights in first tri.
Drink a lot of water, rest when you can, nap if you're able, and sleep as much as possible.
Thanks for the advice. I wish I could nap! I am a 4th grade teacher, that is not going to happen. I am in bed by 8:30... I normally am up to 1130-1200.
Teachermama - Nap when you get home! Or at least lay down (I am really, really bad at taking naps, even when exhausted).
I teach 8th grade, so I TOTALLY get it - no naps at school, LOL!
But seriously, plan to just rest.
The other, kind of opposite thing that helped me was just staying busy when I knew I couldn't nap.
Sitting still was HARD. I found the WORST days were committee meetings, etc. because I was sitting there and not busy enough.
Also, as counter-intuitive as it sounds, exercise if you can. Get out for a walk if possible (NOT always possible!).
What time do you get home? I feel like I get home too late. I tutor as well. I used to tutor until 630 at night and was not getting home til 730. I have cut that down. I only tutor until 530 now.
YES! Meeting are HORRIBLE!
I want to start walking after dinner and stuff but its been so GROSS. Yesterday it rained, sleet, and snowed. It was insane.
Oh yikes! I am not at work that late, thank goodness.
Our contract requires us to stay at work only until 3:15. I have a few extra curriculars so there was a night or 2 a week where I had to stay until 4, but I literally NEVER stayed past that during first tri (which was really weird for me--I'm usually a lot more involved and stay a lot later).
I had to cut down on some of the things I normally did at work to survive first tri. Any chance you can reduce your schedule at all? I know it's easier said than done. I'm lucky because H and I work at the same school and he actually took over some of my extra stuff (which I know is a really, really extra fortunate perk of working together).
H and I work at the same school. I have cut down THANK GOD! WE are contracted to stay til 4. So leaving at 530 is not horrible. I have been sleeping in the car when I am really tired. So I guess that counts as my nap.

I would try to leave at your contract time whenever possible! Do you and your H carpool to work? H and I usually do, but we stopped for a long time during first tri. I just could NOT do it. I worked only contract hours for a long while. It was weird for me, but I just had to do what I had to do to survive!
I would LOVE to leave at 4! I would feel horrible! I already dropped a tutoree. I went from M- 4-630, T - 430-530 W - 4-530, Th 430-530 to M - 4-530; T - 4-500, W - 4-530, Th - 4-430
Should I drop more? How do I explain it when no one knows?

I quit coffee all together, and let me tell you, it's tough. But I found that a vanilla steamer is almost as good as a vanilla latte. Not great, but it'll do for now. I will be so happy when I can have coffee for real again!

I did this pretty often first tri. Actually, sometimes I still do it now. I know its pure exhaustation when I get good sleep in the car. I just had to make sure to set 2 alarms. Hang it there- it gets better.

The blessing is, My H drives home so I take a nap on the drive home.
well, i still drank coffee, just switched to half-caffeine coffee. but i'd agree it doesn't help much with the first tri exhaustion. i would bring some little snack (usually candy) to look forward to just after lunch when it was the worst. i'd eat my peanut butter cup or snack bag of m&ms or whatever and convince myself that the sugar rush would get me through the afternoon. it didn't always work, but most days it did.
I cut out coffee and tea because the smell and taste made me hurl, so I found I didn't really miss them so much as the IDEA of them. I had a cup of coffee for the first time in a long time yesterday and it was so bliss to have gotten over that aversion.
