I am probably in the minority but I don't think these sorts of things help first time moms. I have done this 3 times before and some of those things never happened in any of my other 3 experiences. Every experience is different, every new mom is different. Reading this before I had my first baby would have scared the shit right on out of me.
I got a good laugh out of it. It's the first time I saw a picture of a mesh underwear with a giant pad, so at least I don't have to wonder about that anymore.

I have never seen that kind before. No huge, enormous pad.
Sorry guys! I didn't think about it from the perspective that it would freak anyone out, my bad.
My comment was more about how many of those I have seen. Like Bloggers are trying to freak new moms out. I get the humor in it. It really isn't that horrible
I find this article to be a little more than "a little over the top". I do not know what yr she had or c/s but I had almost none of her experience.
There was nothing passing. The doc cleaned my ute out pretty well. In fact I only needed a panty liner after day 5. The pain was not that bad at all. I had glue not staples, I did not need to poop or fart before I went home. I would not take too much stock in that writers experience being typical.

I agree. I have had 2 c-sections and none of that held true for me. Pain was manageable, I had sutures not staples, they listened to my digestive system and could hear it working so no need to fart or poop. My c-section deliveries were better then my one vaginal delivery. Getting ready to do it again!

I didn't have a c-section, so the vast majority of those didn't apply to me. And I've known several with a c-section, that those wouldn't have applied to either.
I had two c-sections, and I'm glad I didn't read this before the first one. I don't know if she is exaggerating or is the biggest wimp in the world. It's not THAT bad!
seems a bit silly to me. Everyones experience with c-sec AND vaginal delivery is different and plenty of people are successful with breastfeeding no matter what sort of delivery they have. Just seems overly negative to me
I often laugh at these types of things but this one I found to just be annoying.

I had a c-section and it wasn't really that bad. I stayed on top of my meds for the first couple of days and was never in a lot of pain. I took a shower as soon as I could. Even the bleeding wasn't that bad. I have always had heavy periods and it was similar to AF bleeding. I bled for 2 weeks, but the second week was very light.
I didn't get any massages after the c-section. During the actual c-section, they did a lot of massaging. It's not painful, but it's a lot of pressure and just kind of weird. I didn't have to have staples removed.
I was surprised by the post c-section swelling. I had to send DH home to grab a pair of flip flops because my feet were so big I couldn't even fit them in tennis shoes without the laces. I also was not prepared for the shaking from the meds and having to be tied down during the c-section.

I am VBAC'ing this time around b/c we want 2 more kiddos after this one but OMG I am TERRIFIED to do a vaginal. I feel like my c/s was a drive through walk in the park!

Oh don't let me scare you. My first one was posterior, so face up, and that is harder to push out. So after a short induction I spent 3 hours pushing, a vacuum extraction and a fourth degree tear. The recovery from the tear continues 11 years later. I am a little glad my son was breech!! This will be my third c-section. I love scheduling an appointment and having a baby 2 hours after I get to the hospital.
Good Luck with the VBAC. I contemplated one with the third baby but I swear I have PTSD after the vaginal!
I'm sorry for my ignorance, I had vaginal births with my first 2. Leaning towards a c-section for this one, though. So I'm curious...
Why would pooping be terrifying after a c-section? I had a 4th degree tear with my 2nd baby so I understand why that was a terrifying thing. I don't understand why pooping after a c-section would be anywhere near as bad as that.

maybe because she has never had a 4th degree tear and doesn't know what true pooping terror is!! The only issues I had after the 2 c-sections was due to the pain meds constipating effects. Just plan a head and try to head it off before it gets bad.

Mannnnnnnn if I had a vaginal experience like you did I would take the c/s hands down too!

Contracting the muscles they just cut to be able to push the poop out is hard. Not so much painful as tricky to figure out how to use them to do what they need to do.

Unfortunately my first csection was very difficult - I related to a lot of what she wrote. The second was a lot easier having not labored and pushed but still difficult.
However I did have gushing blood for a couple of days after #2 that I didn't have with #1. Enough I thought my catheter came out and I was peeing somehow.
Pooping and sneezing (oh hell the sneezing) were rough.
While lots of csections are easy breezy recoveries, not all are and it was hard reading online that they're easy and why all the fuss. My wish for everyone is an easy one. But if you need pain meds for six weeks you're in good company
ETA: I was very modest with #1. With #2, the food services MAN left and only after did I realize I was sitting up topless having just nursed.
I got a good laugh out of this article. I found I could already relate to a couple of things she mentioned, since that's what happened to me after my surgery to remove the ectopic pregnancy (pooping was a challenge of epic proportions, and I too lost all shame when a nurse very kindly helped me go to the bathroom and washed my nether regions with a squirty bottle).
I am probably in the minority but I don't think these sorts of things help first time moms. I have done this 3 times before and some of those things never happened in any of my other 3 experiences. Hell I am pregnant with my third and this just scared the shit out if me. I had forgotten about the "uterine massages". Omg. Why did I go and read this?
To be honest, I want to know EVERYTHING that can possibly suck, exaggerated or not. This is mostly because when something happens, I will assume that I'm the only one with whatever issue I'm having and it 100% means something is wrong and I'm going to die. Yep. I'm that kind of crazy anxious.
However, I am sane enough to realize that not everything painful/disgusting/scary that happens to people will happen to me (well, let's hope not!) so I don't get anxious over what might happen.
I like to have a list of things to expect so when I do experience them, I can go "OK, this sucks but is normal, it's just XYZ happening."
Like when I read that post on lightning crotch. THANK FUCKING GOD. DH rolls his eyes and thinks I'm making myself paranoid, but let me tell you, if I wake up in the middle of the night with horrible crotch pain, I'll be off to the ER assuming the worst. Much better to have a plausible reason for what is going on rather than be sitting in the dark thinking of all the horrible things that are going wrong.
So if anyone has any more things to watch out for (pre or post pardum) that they would like to share with me, bring it on!

I know. They don't do the massages after a c-section so that is a plus for me!!!
