I keep hearing I can't be around paint and I'm not allowed to paint and DH must do it all.
But, let's face it, he's NOT going to do it. I do all the handyman stuff around the house and we have partially finished projects that halted when I got knocked up. It is killing me since I'm a "do-er" and do suffer from OCD. God, how am I going to deal when nesting starts??
I'm assuming being around the fumes for a long time is not good. But they do make low or zero VOC paint now. Also, I'm pretty sure as long as there is plenty of ventilation I'll be fine. And I won't paint everything at once so the whole house is full of fumes. I can even close the doors and keep that one room isolated. Plus, the weather is getting nice so windows can be thrown open all day.
I don't know. We're planning on having the baby's room painted when we go out of town for a weekend next month. Since it will be May, it should be nice enough to keep the window open and have it well-ventilated before we come back home.
This is what we did when we had a room painted while I was pregnant with DD.
I don't ever paint any walls myself, pregnant or not.

I stained come cabinets last week...probably not the greatest thing to do, but I wore a mask most of the time and the windows were open in the room. I wouldn't really think twice about painting though since I always use the low VOC paints.
I painted our whole nursery by myself at like 25 weeks. I used zero VOC paint and kept the windows open and the fan on. I researched a lot about it ahead of time - it's fine. See: americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/paintexposure.html If you're really concerned, you could get one of those respirators, but I would only bother with that if I was using strong chemicals or latex paints. You should tell your family to simmer down. Or stop telling them what you're planning on doing.

As long as you can ventilate the room and you aren't over exerting yourself, you'll be fine.
Heck, I painted half our house when I was 8 mo pregnant because we were putting it on the market. And since that was Dec/Jan, I didn't open any windows... DD is fine.
My OBGYN with my first pregnancy strictly forbids painting even with No VOC paints at any point in my pregnancy. My current OBGYN allows you to paint after your 1st tri as long as it is well ventilated.
Personally, I would never paint while pregnant. If I can't get DH to do it I would just hire it out. It is not expensive to paint a single room

I just can't justify spending money we don't have to do something so simple. Then again if it's so simple why can't H do it? Most of it isn't even whole rooms. Just touch ups where we had to spackle a spot in the wall and in the bathroom where we had a window removed. It's like a 30 min job. I think if I don't paint I'll just wait until after the baby comes. It's very rare for me to hire a contractor to do work in my house as I'm pretty good at most things.

DH works FT and goes to school FT. He is busy. I paid I guy $50 to do a job just like this the last time. I waited a yr for DH to do it. It was worth it to me.

90% of the work of painting is prep and clean up. DH would love it if I did everything except hold the roller... normally I make him help with almost the whole thing.
