We saw a hypnotist at a comedy club last night and it was freaking hysterical. But then it got me thinking about people using hypnosis in everyday life. Anybody do/done that? Anybody been hypnotized for comedy reasons?
I was as part of a comedy routine. It's really crazy. I knew what was happening and I knew my trigger word and I would think to myself "I'm not going to do it" and then he'd say it and I'd do my thing and I had no power to stop it. Crazy!
A friend of mine is a PhD student whose interest is in hypnosis and suggestibility. Not the "you think you're a chicken" hypnosis, but how people are suggestible and in what mental states.
I've never been. We tried it once in my psych 101 class, and I felt nothing.
But they used to do this hilarious show every year at my college of a hypnotist making kids do crazy things on stage. People were desperate to get up there. They would make insane signs and dress up to try to get him to pick them.
I've been hypnotized as part of therapy, and it was great! I would feel so amazing when I left. During the sessions I would sometimes feel like I had no body from the waist down which was really weird.
I was hypnotized in college as part of a comedy show. It was crazy. I felt like I knew exactly what I was doing, but wasn't really in control. At one point he had us "get pulled over for going 120 in our Dad's sports car". I literally started bawling on stage saying my Dad was going to be so mad at me.
I'd love to do it was weight loss reasons. I don't have much to lose, but I struggle with compulsive eating. I wonder how expensive it is.
I am routinely hypnotized by my psychologist. (She's also a hypnotherapist but it's not her main tool so to speak.) I was very skeptical but hopeful at the same time when she first started doing it.
Now that it's happened a few times I believe it is working. I can't find any other explaination as to why I would abruptly stop unhealthy behaviors that I have exhibited for years without any other work on my part.
I was trained to do it. Not like stage hypnosis, but as a therapy tool. I was also hypnotized by my classmates repeatedly as we learned to do it. It. was. awesome! Soooo relaxing. Meditation meets relaxation ---> opens the gates to consider behavior change. Loved it.
