I went into labor within 24 hours when I lost it with my first. When I lost it at 34 weeks with my second I got pretty nervous and went to work and started trying to pass my stuff off to coworkers who were covering for me during my leave. I didn't go into labor for two more weeks this time at 36.5 weeks.
I lost mine about 10-11 days before going into labor. It regenerates, so you might lose it (or parts of it) multiple times.
It does mean, most likely, that your cervix is starting to open up a little bit, which is why the plug falls out. But you can walk around with a dilated cervix for a while before going into labor. Or you could go into labor tonight :-) It's anyone's guess once you're in the "any day now" phase.
Eh I don't think it means much. I know girls that lost it and still had to get induced. Just like some girls are 50% and 1 cm at 38 weeks and get excited, but then they don't progress any further. Some do go right away but some don't. Just have to wait and see.
Welcome to the state of constantly wondering if any little thing is the onset of labor! I made a comment at my 38 week appointment that I hadn't lost my mine yet and my doctor looked at me and said "um, I think you have!" and that started a week of panic that I could become a gushing waterfall at any moment! Thankfully, I went in to labor at 39w,5d with no monumental, public breaking of water.
I was talking with two of my girlfriends yesterday, both of whom have had babies within the last year, about how unreal it is that every.single.case is so different…some people's water breaks, some don't, one of my friends LITERALLY had a 3 day labour (she kept going in and out of active labour, it was horrible for her), the other barely made it to the hospital on time and didn't even have time for an epidural had she wanted one.
So yeah…I held my breath a bit yesterday wondering if I was going to be in the 4-12 hour camp…I think I may be more in the 7 day camp, lol.
We talked about this in childbirth classes yesterday! Once your mucus plug comes out, you're likely to deliver in the next 2 weeks. As pp's have said, it happens faster/slower for different ppl. But a good sign that your body is getting ready!
