Ick. I would not donate to a student loan fund for a wedding gift. I don't mind registries at all (in fact, I prefer them bc then I know the couple will use/want it), but to me a wedding gift is more about celebrating the start of your life together. Ten years from now, you're not going to remember who gave you $50 towards your student loan.
$50 is the suggested amount for the student loan registry. How did you know??
Lol!
But seriously, if this type of gift grabbiness is ever deemed socially acceptable, I want a wedding do over. My guests could've kick started our retirement funds or something!
I am sort of growing ok with the travel registries but the student loan thing is tacky. If you don't need anything, don't register. But don't use a wedding as a way to cover your expenses. What's next - registering for mortgage payments?
I don't like it (the loan payment one). They can always just take the cash people give as gifts and put it toward that. I can understand a HM one for a wedding, but I don't think that just because you get married, people should be funding your new car, a house, your student loans, etc. That is weird to me.
apalettepassion.wordpress.com/ WHO IS BONQUIQUI!?!?!?!??!
"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"
I don't mind the honeymoon registries (confession- we had one, because we already had a house full of stuff and didn't need more, but we tied ours to specific experiences during our trip), but the student loan repayment strikes me as kind of weird since it's not really wedding- or marriage-related.
But I guess I can kind of see it as helping them to start their life together. Reducing the debt they start off with, maybe they can buy a house/have a baby/whatever sooner? I don't know, I'm torn.
I have decided that I need a pair of Jimmy Choo's to help me achieve my life goals. I am sending out the registry link so that you all can fund my dreams.
I think if you have everything you need you just don't register, or you just create a small registry to get the point across and people will normally default to sending checks.
