I didn't realize people did gifts. I never did for my bridal shower and I've hosted 2 baby showers and never got a gift. Just a nice thank you seems enough.
I've never done it for any of my showers, bridal or baby. My friend who I threw a shower for gave me a candle and candle holder with a nice note. Nothing big, but it was very nice.
I spent maybe $50 each, but it was for MIL and SIL who threw us the most amazing surprise shower. They put TONS of time and effort on, and I know they spent a lot of money on food (it was catered). Plus they're family:-). I had a nice flower arrangement delivered to each of them.
I spent about $50 on my shower hostesses who were friends and hosted a friends shower. This is the normal range for hostess gifts in my circle.
I'll likely spend a similar amount on my mom for the family she's throwing.
I'm undecided on how much to spend for a former CW who is throwing a small shower and my manager who is throwing a work shower. Probably in the $25 range.
My friends were surprised to receive thank you gifts, so I think it's not that common in our circle. But I felt like it was the least I could do for the beautiful shower they planned. There were 4 hostesses, so I kept it simple. I gave them each a box of nice truffles from a local chocolatier, a bottle of their favorite wine/craft beer/hard cider, depending on their preference, and a thank you card. It was about $20/ea.
