I had a HUGE problem with fire ants in my last house as well as raspberry/crazy ants inside too.
I'm building a new house (in Texas) and I want to do whatever I can to prevent these nasty things from coming in my house. They do foam spray all exterior walls.
Is Amdro a brand or a chemical? I'm not familar with it
Both? It's a granular that you can buy at HD, Lowes or probably at Wal-mart. You sprinkle a little on the mound and they take it back to the nest (?) and they're gone in like a day it seems.

My parents, who are anti bug nuts, in the crazy sense, since the live in coastal Carolina, put borax between the walls of their new construction house. It seems to work, I have never seen a single live bug in their house.

When I built my first house in Florida the builder put these special tubes in the walls and the pest control company had access to pump something in the tubes once a year. We never had a single bug.

Texas fire ants are a different pest than any other ant. You really need to do the two step approach of mound treatment and broadcast (entire yard) and even better if your neighbors can time it with you. Or else they just move.
Fwiw, I've never had fireants in my house. We have those tubes in the wall and they seem to work very well. The company is HomeTeam Pest Defense. We've used then for 7 years, no complaints.
