most likely to actually buy - ugh. nothing really. we live all the way down on the edge of our zip, and I really don't like the area that makes up the bulk of our zip code. There is nothing for sale in our little area. This is kinda cute, but would only work if we fast forward 20 years and we're empty nesting it:

The most expensive isn't that bad for the area: 5 bed, 5 bath on 3.5 acres - $1.875 million Poof
Cheapest is a 2 bed/2 bath condo, 1080 sq. ft. for about $350K: Poof We would most likely buy this 4 bed, 3 bath house for $759K (I like our house much better - bigger, bigger lot, etc.) Poof
- I realized I probably shouldn't post my zip code.
Most expensive: $795,000, buys you 6 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, 5200 sf in an 1860's colonial on 20 acres.
Least expensive: $99,500
TBH, I can't quite figure out what's going on here. It's listed as having 1 bedroom, 1.5 bath, and 1800 sf. And the house pretty much touches the street?
What I'd buy? Eh. I looked, and nada. My zip code (which the two above homes are in) is divided between two school districts. One I like, one I don't. There are only 9 houses for sale that are in both my zip code and the district I like. 6 of them are new construction homes that are out of our price point. 1 is on too busy a road. 2 are in my neighborhood and not as large/nice as my house (IMO!), including this one:
but if I've gotta pick something, I guess this is it?
I'd have much better choices if we opened it up to the town/district I'm in, but allowed for different zip code. There's a very narrow swath that has our town/school district/zip code combination.

This is the most expensive "house" in my town. It's an old manor house turned convent. 27,000 SqFt, 15 bedrooms, 5 baths. $9,350,000! Its on 100+acres and comes with two 3 bedroom single family homes.
The most expensive "real" house is:
The least is:
If I was shopping in my current town with no budget, I'd probably take this one.
$3.3M buys you a 6,400 sq ft 1848 mansion on 5 acres that's falling down because it's been on the market so long and its owners can't afford to maintain it. A few years ago, it was listed at $10M. The inside is NOT nicely decorated, unfortunately. It's walking distance to a very chic and happening downtown area with great nightlife.
For $3M I'd actually want to spend, you can get this 8000 sq ft house built in 2008. (For a $3M listing, you can't spring for professional photos? BOO!)
Cheapest is a trailer on 2 acres for $48k
And if we were shopping, I'd buy our same house again Because it's summertime in a college town, the only thing in our price range on the market is free standing townhouses and ours is nicer than all the others and that's why we bought it
Most expensive ($698,250): 3738 sq feet - 4 beds, 3.5 baths on .52 acres.
Least expensive ($320,000): 1920 sq feet - 4 beds, 2 baths on .73 acres. Sort of on a busy road.
House I would buy: Different zip code 10 minutes away and would have been my preferred area but inventory is always low there. It's $479,000, 2877 sq feet on .47 acres. 4 beds, 2.5 baths. No central air.
Most expensive: $675K. 3900sf, 5br/5ba. Foreclosure. Seems overpriced, especially considering it's a foreclosure. This photo is bad, but it's the only one in the listing.
Least expensive: $59,900. 1900sf triplex
House I'd buy: honestly, there's nothing currently for sale that I like better than the house I already have. I have a nice house.
In my zip code $650K will get you this gorgeous 4K sq ft 5BR/5BA craftsman on .25 acres of land. I would buy this house if I had that kind of money. I have a love affair with craftsmans. Although a house like that should have more land IMO.
Apparently the cheapest house is so ugly that this is the best photo to be had. It's $57,500, .36 acres of land, 1,100 sq ft and 3BR/2BA.
I am sad to see that the next cheapest house is a foreclosure on my street just a few doors down from me.
If we were looking to upgrade to a larger house I would bid on this one for sure. It look to be in pretty good shape for it's age. It's 4BR/2BA on .25 acre.
I'd buy: nothing. There's only a tiny sliver of neighborhood in my zip that is nice enough for us while not completely pricing us out, and no one in that area is selling. NO ONE. There are a couple of foreclosures, but they aren't on the market right now. We live in a land of extremes (extreme wealth jammed right up next to extreme poverty). Not much room for those of us in the middle.
Most expensive: $4,875,000; 8BR, 6.5bath, 9957 sq. ft. (in NYC, but private community)
Least expensive: $69,900 for some foreclosed studio. No details provided on sf and this is the only pic.
If we were buying, I would want to upgrade to a 2BR apt. I didn't see any pics of places I liked. (Or if we won the lottery, I would totally buy one of those million-dollar houses in the private community from above.)

Most expensive:
6 bedroom, 8 bath, 8,500 sq ft on 6 acres. 1.5 million
Least expensive:
$66,000 3 bed, 2 bath, 1400 sq ft and infested with mold. Next to least expensive is a similar but not moldy home listed at 110,000.
House I'd be most likely to buy:
This one is just down the street from us, and we considered it but felt it was overpriced at the time It's now listed at $269,900 4 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, 3440 sq ft and a full finished basement.

Most Expensive:
4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, 4,014 square feet for $259,900.
Least Expensive:
Only one picture. This "beautiful" 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom 816 square feet home is only $33,750!
House I'd most likely buy: None. I want OUT of my zip code!
If I expanded to my city in general:
Most expensive:
This one is a 5 bedrooms, 6 bathroom house with 7447 square feet and is
Least expensive:
ONLY $11,000. But it's in a bad part of town and needs work (this is the only picture, I just know the area well enough to know that second part is true lol.)
$1,600,000 • 4 br, 4 ba, 2-½ ba • 4207 sq. ft. , 44 acres
Least Expensive.....
$51,850 (foreclosure) • 1 br, 2 ba
I'd Buy.....
$246,000 • 4 br, 2 ba, 1-½ ba • 2475 sq. ft.
We couldn't afford this right now, but hopefully once the market improves (we're currently underwater) and our kids are in school (aka no more daycare payments).....
Just in our zip code, this is the most expensive (4bd 3ba 4600sf on a 9800sf lot, listed at $2,599,000)
...and the least expensive SFH (4bd 2ba 1218sf on a 5382sf lot going for $329k). This house isn't in the best location but it has a ton of potential. If I was looking for a huge project, this could be a fun one.
Our zip code is very small though, so here's the most expensive one in our city (5bd 4.5ba 6465sf on a 1.5 acre lot for $3.5m). Totally not my style but check out that wine cellar!
If I had an extra $1.2mil lying around, this is the house I'd pick. It's only a few blocks from us:
In my zip code $650K will get you this gorgeous 4K sq ft 5BR/5BA craftsman on .25 acres of land. I would buy this house if I had that kind of money. I have a love affair with craftsmans. Although a house like that should have more land IMO.
Oh, how I love Craftsmans. We don't have them around here. But seriously? .25 acres? That's a shame.
Most Expensive House: $399,000; 2,240 Square Feet, 80 Acres (here's the value in the property), 3 Bed, 2.5 Bath, all pine interior in main living area (ceiling, walls, floor, oh my!)
Least Expensive House: $9,900; 700 square feet, .1 Acres, lakefront, 3 bed 1 bath
House I would be most likely to buy: $283,000 1,778 square feet, 3 bed, 2.5 bath, River Front, next to a park, 4.3 acres
