My mom lives on the other side of the country from me. She just randomly flew in to look at a piece of property she's buying near me, and surprised me by telling me she had a few extra days and wanted to come help me out. It's such a blessing because I own a farm and my work is very physically demanding, so I've just been getting exhausted lately and feel like I'm falling behind on all the house things.
So she came over this weekend and cleaned my whole house top to bottom, weeded my flower beds, tidied up my yards, and sewed the crib skirt I've been meaning to make. Then my brother came over to see her and helped with farm work and car maintenance and his wife helped around the house too. You guys - it has been SO wonderful! I feel like such a burden has been lifted from my shoulders.
Oh - and my mom just told me her "baby gift" to me is that she's going to pay for us to hire a housekeeper for a few months after the baby is born. Hooray!!!!!! I love my family!
Your mom has the right idea. I would suggest to any new parent, if you can find the budget, hire help. House cleaner over expensive stroller any day for me!
