Someone posted a link below that included a navy/white stripe top and a motorcycle jacket to be basics. What else would you consider to be basics, beyond a LBD, tees, jeans etc.?

Some kind of a canvas or non chunky sneaker like Converse Chucks or Keds. A sweatshirt or hoodie can be dressed up or down. Something like the Norma Kamali Everlast cocoon cardigan ones or a cashmere hoodie. A neutral tunic for travel. Thick leggings also for travel. Ballet flats, flat sandals that are not flip flops, and some kind of leather boot. Also, a long necklace that's simple and easy to throw on and a classic metal or leather band watch.
I think it totally depends based on your job (and other factors, but mainly job). I wear scrubs to work and am a mom to a toddler. So I have no use for pencil skirts, dressy pants, etc.
My basics for fall/winter are jeans, leggings, boots (riding and Uggs), long tunics/t-shirts, and cardigans.
My basics for spring/summer are jeans, chino shorts, well-fitting t-shirts (stripes and solids), flip-flops, and flat sandals.
And fantastic tops from Anthro and jewelry year-round.
General basics for me are a great fitting pair of jeans and the perfect slouchy white or gray tee and some long tanks. These things regardless of time of year are always a favorite and must be on hand at all times also a great leather jacket (moto style is my favorite). Good pair of thick black leggings or black skinnies. A nude pump, LBD and some gold ballet flats. These items are always on repeat for me.
great jeans, white and black tees (short and long sleeve), white and black tanks, white and black sweaters. denim jacket. black or gray wool peacoat. a LBD. black and nude heels. black and nude ballet flats. flat sandals in black, tan/brown/cognac, metallic (gold or silver). black and khaki twill shorts. a well-fitted white button down shirt. classic diamond (fake or real) studs. pearl studs. pearl necklace. a simple white gold or silver pendant on a chain. a few cardigans (black, gray, and something in color at least).

skib have you ever been to an Anthro accessory store? I think they are only in NYC and Nashville, but they are so fun to shop since it's only accessories and you don't have to sift through the clothes to find everything.
Also, OP add white jeans to the list. They never go out and can be styled dressy or casual.

I have not! That sounds amazing! Do they have shoes, too? I found the greatest sandals the other day at Anthro, and I never would have seen them except that someone decided they didn't want them and left them at the register. They were a great price, too! But because of the way stuff is arranged in the store, it's really hard to see stuff like shoes.
All of that to say: I'm adding a trip to the Anthro accessory store to the agenda of my next trip to NYC.

It's shoes, bags, scarves, hair accessories, and jewelry only. It's smaller than the stores, but much less overwhelming. It's set up like a museum shop where everything is displayed openly and you don't have to dig or walk in circles looking for more of an item that's in a random display. The sale stuff gets mixed in, but it doesn't end up getting abused like it does in the sale rooms.

I totally agree. I work in a conservative office environment and live in classic suits, black dress pants, silk sweaters and blazers. So for me these are basics for work. Your coloring is also in play. My basics are black, navy, red, cobalt, bright pink and dark green because these colors flatter my coloring. Someone else with different coloring may choose to have browns, tans, ivories, sages and corals because those colors flatter their coloring.
Weekends find me in comfortable sweaters and slacks or outright sweats with bright colored sneakers.

Anything I can wear with multiple things for completely different outfits/looks is considered a basic for me whether it is a neutral or not.
I don't have much to add other than what has already mentioned- other than my white with black polka dot portofino from express. That gets almost as much use as my chambray for me.
My black and white stripe skirt is turning into a basic for me also.

You forgot anything with a Cardinals logo as well.
I actually do not have many of the things other people have listed as basics. For me:
Black slacks Jeans Black pencil skirt Cardigans Colorful tanks or shells Black heels Neutral sandals Colorful, lightweight fitted sweaters in fall/winter
aak0517 (and others) - do you have any recs for slouchy t's and long tanks? I am in need of both.
Thanks!
For slouchy tees, try H&M or Free People (though FP can often be sheer). You can usually find deals on FP, just find the style on their site for actual measurements since those can get crazy. Target's long and lean tanks are good for long tanks. I don't love the Target ones, but I'm yet to find a better long tank, especially for the price. They also have a good color selection.

The mossimo micro rib tanks from target are my favorite thing ever. I own so many. They also have a boyfriend t that I think is pretty great but maybe not 100% perfect.
