yep it is insane.
This is a slightly different rant but I am really bugged by the jump from 12 month to 18 month things though. My 5 month old is wearing 9 & 12 month stuff right now but the next size (18m) is so huge especially in leg length. Even some 12 month stuff is really, really long and super skinny which is bizarre. I know I have a big baby but IMO 12m stuff should still fit a tubby baby, not be all long and skinny. wtf.
thank goodness we're going into summer now and he can wear shorts soon so i won't have to worry about the length factor except for pjs.
Meh, I have every size in my closet from 8 to 16, depending on what article of clothing (skirts, shorts, dresses, jeans, etc) and brand. I just kind of expect sizes to be messed up.
Yes! It's weird that the sizing differs so much between fabrics (fleece vs. cotton jammies). Also, the Carter's stuff from Costco is HUGE compared to items from the actual Carter's store.

Yup - I put J's 3 month clothes away but I think I need to bring the pants back b/c the next sized pants are huge! I pull them way up and he looks like Fred Mertz.
I have a business idea to make wide and narrow baby clothing. One size per age does not account for shape differences.
The width on some outfits is nuts! J is in a Janie & Jack long sleeve onesie (bought on consignment) that's barely long enough but so baggy on the sides.
It doesn't get better either. C has 3T, 4T, 5T, 4, 5 and XS in his closet right now. It is always a hold it up and guess game. And it's so hard when people ask what size he's in for clothes, I always go bigger because he can at least grow into it.

Ditto this.
My oldest is going to be 6 (tomorrow!) and has sizes 4-8 in her closet. Ridiculous. I do know with her, it's a height thing. She's tall and skinny, so jeans, she needs to size up so they fit in length. But, with shorts, she doesn't need length, we have to fit to her tiny waist. So annoying. It's also annoying because I save everything for DD#2 and I have no clue where some outfits are because my oldest fit in them for so long that they're mixed in with the wrong sizes!

For the most part my kids fit into one size at a time, but moving up a size is always tough for my kids because they have short legs. My DD's size 5 pants barely button, but the length is great. Same with DS; he's outgrowing the 18 month size but the 24 month pants need to be rolled up three times. I figure my kids are doomed to spend all of childhood wearing rolled cuffs on their pants. I guess that's the nature of buying clothes that are supposed to fit a range of heights -- it's too big when you buy it, it fits nicely for a while, then it's borderline too small for a while before you start all over again on the next size.
