Ours was not covered since I am not AMA and have no particular risk factors, but we are in the if-you-can-test-for-it,-test-for-it camp. I would not terminate, but I want as much time as possible to prepare for a child who might have additional needs. To prepare myself emotionally, to prepare anything in my home that the baby might need, and most importantly, to have the appropriate medical care available immediately since some genetic aberrations come with immediate physical needs for which early intervention can make a world of difference.
I never had one with DS because we were moving countries (from USA, 2 weeks in South Africa to visit family, and then UK). By the time we were settled and registered with a doc I was 14 weeks already and then still needed to be referred to the midwife who then had to refer me to the hospital for a scan and blood tests.
This time we had it. It was nerve racking because we found out about our missed miscarriage at the previous one. But it was like an optional extra for our 12 week scan and is all on the NHS.

Did you call your insurance and ask or did your Dr find out if it's covered? Now I'm thinking I need to check into this.
If you were me and my doctor will get me in for another u/s somewhere around 12-13 weeks, would you do the NT scan?
I'm fairly confident that I can get in for another u/s...my worry is if I cannot. I know that I will not be able to handle not seeing the baby for 5 weeks considering my m/c history. My doctor is well aware of my concerns both with having another m/c and also introducing more worry/anxiety if the NT results came back positive.
I also need to ask her some questions about if we do the NT scan and if it were to come back positive...what would be next steps. I am under 35 and she said an amnio would not be done (not sure if she meant in replace of the NT or if she meant even if the NT came back positive).
Luckily I have 2 more appts with her before I have to make the decision. Both DH and I are really conflicted on what to do. We were not going to do it with our first pregnancy and now with our losses and wanting to see the baby as much as possible it's introducing confusion.
I hope you NT scan goes well...do you have it scheduled? When will you go?
If your Dr will just do a regular check up u/s I would skip the NT scan. But I agree, NO WAY I could go 5 weeks without something since I've gone every 2 weeks since I had my beta.
I go in next Thursday at 11 weeks and then we are scheduling NT scan. She said 12 1/2 weeks so I assume May 19/20? That's my last RE appt and I made my first OB one which will be at 15 weeks and they said he'll want to do an ultrasound too. Which I'm fine with
Not doubting you at all, but I didn't think they could do the NT scan with twins? Or am I thinking of something else?

My RE is doing it so I'm hoping she's right? She was the one that presented it to me. I honestly have no idea if you usually couldn't.
Well, if anyone would know, it would be a RE, and not a SAHM with a degree in Comm! I'm not sure what I'm thinking of, but I thought for some reason that two babies would throw off the blood work results. Don't mind me...

My ob practice includes a conversation in your first appointment about your insurance. They call ahead of time to find out what is covered for all of your prenatal care, labor, and circumcision and walk you through it all. But if this isn't part of your ob's normal process, you can absolutely call yourself and get specific coverage info.

There are certain pieces of the blood work that they either can't do, or can't determine whether 1 or both babies are impacted since they are pulling fetal cells that are circulating in mom's blood. But the u/s portion they can absolutely do. I think it's probably more challenging with the lack of room in there, but it's still possible to take the measurements.

That makes sense. Now I'm doubting if I want it. I need to think about this more.

Check with your RE about the limitations. If I remember correctly, I think they still TEST for just about everything, but for anything you get an elevated risk hit, it might be hard to tell if one or both are impacted. So if that makes it less meaningful for you, that's good to know. I'd still rather know, but of course I'm in the test-for-it-all camp, lol.
We are doing the bloodwork portion not the u/s portion.
Same as last time.
Yes, this is us for both pregnancies. With DS, our insurance didn't cover the u/s portion at the time and this time around, it was simply too much trouble to find childcare and I didn't feel strongly about getting it.
It has not been offered by my practice for either pregnancy. With #1 I declined the 16 week quad screen. With #2 I had the quad screen. Both times we would have terminated for certain conditions, but with the 16 week screen you know sooner than 20 weeks.
