I have automatic payment set up with our apartment for rent. I just realized when I got the reminder email today that they will continue to charge the full amount of rent until you cancel it. Our lease is up on the 4th, so I just authorized a payment for a full month of rent when we only owe for 4 days.
The leasing office manager told me there's literally nothing they can do until we turn in our keys on the 4th. Then they have up to 10 days to assess the apartment for damages and give us a letter saying what they owe us. Then it can take up to 30 days for them to get us a check for the overpayment plus whatever portion of our security deposit they don't take. I'll be shocked if they return any of it. So I have to wait 40 fucking days to get almost $2 grand back.
I know this is totally on me, but I am so fucking pissed and they are totally unsympathetic and uncaring about it. Ugh! End vent.
Did you talk to the highest manager in the office?
ETA: Is there anything in your lease that might help? Like does it say that rent will be prorated for first and last month for the days you actually live there?
My bank can do a stop payment when it starts processing (this hasn't even happened yet!), but the apartment will charge me a $50 fee. The office manager is going to ask the regional manager if they can waive it, but she won't promise me a response by tomorrow, which is the latest I can pay rent without it being late.
