The heartburn is KILLING me. It doesn't matter what I eat. I drank water this morning & it's burning away. Sparkling water helped previously but it isn't even touching it now.
I am 31 weeks in and have been dealing with heartburn all along. Zantac provided relief up until 28 weeks when it just stopped working. I am on Prilosec now and it seems to be working. Both were recommend by the OB. My heartburn is worse at night so OB also recommend sleeping propped up on a couple of pillows. That helped too.
I can usually take the edge off of mine so it's tolerable with a combo of tums and sipping ginger ale. Nights are rough because I can't sleep on my back, and propping up on my side is ridiculously uncomfortable for me.
I have not personally tried this, however DH's cousin (a good friend of mine) had atrocious heartburn with both of her pregnancies. She would mix some baking soda, a teaspoon or two maybe, with some water and drink it. I guess with baking soda being a base it would neutralize the acid of the heartburn. If you want to give it a shot, maybe it would be helpful? I know she said it didn't taste great, but it would give great relief. Hope it gets better soon!
I'm doing a combo of tums and Zantac. For the last month or so, it was manageable with tums. In the last week, I've had to start regularly taking the Zantac. I'm up to twice a day. I had it early on with both pregnancies. Not my favorite part.

I had luck with taking one Zantac 75 in the morning from about weeks 20-30, and in the past few weeks even that hasn't helped, so I've upped it to one Zantac 75 in the morning, and another before dinner, with tums here and there. It's really not bad for me during the day, but I've been waking up at night, like 1 in the morning, with horirble heartburn, so the Zantac isn't working as well as it was before. I'm actually going to be changing my diet (no coffee, soda, less tomato based products) and eating dinner earlier, and also talking to my doctor next week if there is a stronger medication I should try taking, because the heartburn is so bad at night. It does help to sleep propped up.
hokiegirl82 I don't know if this will help you, but I get it much worse at night than during the day so I don't eat or drink anything at least 3 hours before going to bed, then take a Zantac before bed. That has helped a lot. I also don't eat much for dinner, usually just a few bites. Doing that I can usually sleep on my side or at least minimize the time I have to be propped up in bed at night.
@mrspost8 Last pregnancy I found cutting dairy totally eliminated my heartburn. It's a big commitment but I'll probably do it again this time once I hate late 2nd tri. Worth a try if you find nothing else helps.
The only thing that worked for my heart burn in my first pregnancy was vanilla ice cream. I tried Gaviscon, Rennies, soda water, litres of milk, etc. Vanilla ice cream was the way forward.

In pg it's your internal alignment that causes it. You have to sit up after meals or drinking. This is why water will do it to you too. I'm actually still up right now due to acid reflux that I had a couple hours ago that's now gone away.
