A 48-hour lower GI bug accomplished what 26 weeks of pregnancy constipation could not: a massive, hideous external hemorrhoid . Actually, I suppose it could be a prolapsed internal (I know I've had those on occasion over the years). It feels awful and hurts like a mofo. I have the requisite tucks, prep h, and ice packs and am praying to all that is holy that I don't have to poop for a while. Questions: when should I expect to feel improvement? at what point do I call a doc? My next appt is not until the 13th and I don't have a PCP. There's an urgent care with walk-in hours over the weekend. Thanks
My doctor has done zero for hems. She said if it's really, really, really bad, there's something she can prescribe, but she would prefer not to. I don't know that calling a doctor or going to urgent care would do much for you, but maybe someone else has had a different experience.
It has been Tucks and Earth Mother Bottom Balm all the way for me.
Go to a proctologist. They can remove it. If it's internal, it's super easy. They just pop a rubber-band over it and it falls off in a few days. I had this done and I didn't feel a thing.
If it seems worse than you'd ever expect, and you get nervous that it might not actually be a hemorrhoid....don't google image search "colon prolapse."
I have IBS and have gotten them in the past. Then I had back labor with my first.
My doc said when necessary you can use prep h suppositories, but only when absolutely necessary (what you describe sounds like it qualifies).
Also prep h makes awesome peri-wipes. And use a peri bottle of you have one (even for pee) and avoid TP. Cotton panties that aren't super tight. And lots of hydration.
This is going to sound weird but it totally worked for me. My nurse friend told me about it. Toothpaste. Put a small dab of toothpaste on it. My hemerrhoid went away in a day.
