Only on a boat if there are no other shoe options available to keep from damaging the deck. There are better options. Think Kangaroos, Pumas, or Cole Haan ballet flats with Nike Air.
I love mine and wear them all of the time. We occasionally have random rain/puddles so they're perfect for my commute to work and to wear on the weekends.
I love them and wear them frequently, but am never on boats. They're great when it rains, too...my feet stayed totally dry walking in the pouring rain despite the shoes getting soaked.
Granted, they're not everyone's style, but since I skew more to the preppy side anyway, I love them.
I have a pair of their boat shoes and really like them. Like pp said, they are very comfortable. And they have more than just boat shoes. I have a pair of sandals that are great and a pair of flats as well. I say if you like them, get them.
I love mine. I have a pair of bluefish, and want a pair of angelfish. I do not own a boat and I live 4 hours from the coast. I just think they're cute. if you want a pair, then get them!

You'll see flip flops worn in Manhattan, miles away from a beach. I think it's perfectly appropriate to wear Sperrys on land.

To me it's not about the fact that they're supposed to be water/boat shoes. It's that they're ugly.

I like them and wear the loafer style. I loath toms, live by the beach, and have two little kids to chase. They work for me and its less sloppy looking then flip flops or kicks.
I haven't found ballet flats to be sturdy enough for very active days with kids, so Sperrys are a decent option when you don't want to wear sneakers of some kind. I have Angelfish.
