I feel very odd (wo)man out on this, but I basically haven't decorated the nursery at all, and the closer I get to my due date, the less and less I feel like shelling out money to decorate it. We have the crib, changing table, and a dresser, and we put up black-out curtains. I have a color theme I guess, the crib sheets, changing pad cover, crib dust ruffle, and curtains are all in shades of blue and grey, and we custom ordered a glider and ottoman and the cushions on those are navy blue. But as far as really decorating and putting personal touches on the nursery, I haven't done it yet, and I'm getting to the point where I don't think I will. I found some stuff on Etsy that I really liked, but put off buying it to see how I felt about it later on, and while I still like the stuff, I don't feel like shelling out the money for decorations. Part of this feeling comes from the fact that we are going to put our house on the market next May and I'm just not in the decorating spirit knowing we will hopefully be leaving this house in a year.
Am I weird for not decorating, is anyone else not decorating or doing minimal decorations? (I've lived in this house over 7 years and it's barely decorated anywhere in the house - very few pictures or anything - I guess I'm not big into decorating overall).
Well, we decorated ours up the wazoo - like over the top - and she has yet to spend more than 3-4 minutes straight in there, lol. She goes in occasionally for diaper changes but spends her nights in our room and the rest of her time elsewhere. Honestly, she is NEVER in there, it is funny considering the hours I slaved over that room!
I am not. Baby will be in our room until at least 6 months so I won't do a nursery until we ready to move him or her.
We also need to move after baby is born as we in a 2 bedroom place now, and will need a 3 bedroom, but figure we will save on the rent until we need to move.
I don't think it's weird. I decided I like the little whales, so I registered for a crib sheet in my colors (also blue and grey) with whales on it, and I'll maybe eventually sew a crib skirt in a blue stripe. Other than that, I have 2 pins I'm considering, just a throw pillow for the glider with blue stripes and a whale applique, and a little canvas thing for the wall. So basically sheets, a pillow, and, if I go NUTS, a piece of art. lol. We have plantation shutters, too, so no drapes.

If it makes you feel better, we live in a small 2 bedroom apartment, and will hopefully be moving next spring. Babe is going to be in our room. There will be no decorating. Arms reach co-sleeper and a rock n play.
If things go the way we want we'll probably be living out of boxes still by the time the baby comes so no we aren't gonna do much. I did register for some wall stickers since they are fast and easy and you can remove them whenever.
We weren't going to....we didn't even have a "theme" in mind until SIL and MIL threw us a surprise shower with a jungle theme, and we got lots of cute jungle stuff, so we just kind of went with it. We didn't paint (it's a rental) or buy furniture (just re-purposed pieces we already had). We did buy some vinyl wall decals (the kind that cling and remove without leaving any marks) with monkeys and ad vines, which turned out super-cute.
We are moving when the baby will be about 2-3 months old. I'm thinking a newborn doesn't use the nursery much, so I think we're just going to get the basics until post move. And then knowing myself after we move it'll take me about a year to actually put pictures back up on the walls and stuff, so I'm thinking a fully decorated nursery isn't going to happen.
I'm not! Much to the dismay of all of my friends and family. What a poor, neglected baby.
We don't even have any good reason! We own our house and aren't planning to move soon. I just don't want to spend the time and money on it. I expect the baby to be in our room most of the time. I'll be happy to go all out with whatever he wants, once he's old enough to have an opinion.
Baby is due at the end of November. Our lease is up at the beginning of February. We haven't decided what to do just yet, regarding stay vs move, so no decorating until then
I don't think there is anything wrong with that. I'm sure as the baby grows you will find pictures or things to hang. Or if you don't, who cares. Not everyone does that stuff. We will paint and I plan to hang a few pieces of art I will buy on etsy but that's it. I don't want our walls very busy and I don't really like names or the wall decals.
I am very interested in the nursery in that we have ordered basically all of the furniture and painted the walls. But other than that I have purchased one decorative item (a print). And a friend is making me a cool origami thing as a shower gift. I am not really planning to put anything else on the walls. It's a small space so there is not much wall space there!

We decorated for our first and we're leaving all the exact same decorations for the second, does that count? I may buy a new print or two to hang on the walls, I may not.
I did up a nursery when DS1 was three months because I felt the urge (we had just moved when he was born so not time). Kind of a waste. He spent no time in there. The awesome crib was barely used (we bedshared).
Haven't bothered with a nursery for DS2 (bedshared again) and when DS2 moved into DS1s room it was already lightly decorated with some vinyl walk decals DS1 likes.
Don't worry if you don't have the urge. Save the money for better things like a cleaner or more mat leave.
We'll be lucky to get all the furniture set up before my due date. LOL. We're not big decorators--we still haven't done much with our own bedroom. I don't expect there will be much on the nursery walls other than some pictures.

I feel you. I started out fairly gung ho, but H dragged his feet a bit on painting and moving furniture - even though I pretty much figured if it didn't happen in second tri, it might happen half-assedly. So, we've painted (the same, neutral color) and now half of the furniture is in. I have a wall decal up. And... That's it. So it sounds like you've done more than I have, if it makes you feel any better!
I live in a rental and don't really plan on decorating... Still trying to decide if I should even buy a crib or just get a PNP since we'll move by the time baby is 8 months.
Wet plan to move after the baby arrives so no plans to decorate. But I'm secretly glad because I have no interest in doing so. Now I can use this as an excuse.

Part of me wishes i had the decorating gene. Some of the nurseries I've seen on Pinterest are so awesome but I have neither the energy nor desire to spend money on making the nursery look like the ones on Pinterest.

This is a big part of my philosophy, too. Baby don't care. So it's basically for us adults, and we don't have "themes" in any of our other rooms... lol

Exactly! And I'm just not big into decorations anywhere in the house. I love putting up family pictures, and things that we've gotten on various trips, or have sentimental value. But, I don't buy decorations just to decorate.
At any rate, if this little bugger decides that he wants a Cars room, or Superman, or whatever, I'm happy to do that for him. I just don't have anything in mind that I love enough to do for the baby (myself) right now.
Whenever I tell anyone this is person, they act like they are seriously concerned about the welfare of my baby. It's so weird!
Lol jewel -- my mom saw the couple of whale things I pinned, and on the phone she goes, "oooh, WHALES, huh..??" and I interrupted her and said, "mom. No." Lol. Given free reign, the woman would buy every single thing with a whale on it she could find. Lol

We don't have a nursery to decorate. I did decorate for DD, but we live in a two bedroom house. We don't want to move until I figure out where I'm going to work in 2015. Baby will be in our room in a bassinet... then we'll probably do something super classy like DH and I might sleep in the living room on a fold up couch. We found DD was very disruptive to our sleeping/us to her sleeping, so I'm assuming we'll make this change around 6 months. Hopefully we'll know where we're going to live by June/July 2015 (I'm due in November).

I am right there with you. People have been asking about the colors for months. I'm like..."blue?"
I'll pick things out for those who don't enjoy decorating, LOL. Just don't look to my own house for inspiration. We finally got curtains up in our living room 2.5 years after we moved in.
Newly pregnant here, but we're considering not really "doing" a nursery. We're in a two bedroom apartment with a shortish period of time left here (maybe just 5 months) after the EDD. That second bedroom is used as a combination storage room / sewing room, and there's not really room to put all that stuff if we move it out. I'm leaning towards a cosleeper for the first several months anyway.
I understand your sentiment though, because for the past several years my FB feed has been inundated by adorable photos of nurseries, in which every detail is perfect and pinterest-worthy. It makes me feel like people might judge if we don't go all out.

Decorating the nursery is for the parents, not the baby. If you aren't into it, that's fine. I have grand plans for the nursery, but I have grand plans for the whole house, and I doubt I'll get to any of it. IRL, our house needs so much basic maintenance to even be safe for a baby/toddler, I don't think we're going to have time for anything cute, until maybe around when our kids go to college.
My idea of decorating was taking the "B-A-B-Y S-H-O-W-E-R" banner I ordered from Etsy, removing the "shower" part, moving the teddy bears on the ends closer together and hanging it up across the mirror attached to my old dresser which is now her dresser and changing table. The dresser shares the wall with her mini-crib. There's a colorful lamp wedged in between the two that is used at diaper changes. We got her a small trashcan with a lid for her diapers and a little basked for her laundry. We have an extra bedroom that could've been the baby's room, but it's better utilized being my room.
