DH took out some frozen chicken last night to prep for dinner tonight. I went to the basement to grab something for lunch and I heard a beeping sound. The door alarm was going off and the door was easily 3 inches or so ajar.
It's a lost cause, right? There was some meat on the top shelf and the juices ran down on to the boxed items below.
The contents include frozen meat, pizzas, quick prep dinner things (skillet meals) frozen dinners, bread & bagels.
Ugh. It makes me sick to think of losing an entire freezer of food, but I'd probably toss everything, too. I *might* save frozen pizza if it's the kind that is wrapped in plastic & then a box...but I'd cook it tonight.
Good reminder that you should always put your veggies at the top of the freezer and the meat at the bottom. Not only is it folder at the bottom, but it prevents stuff like this.

Yep, I'd have to agree. If it thawed that much and meat juices got on everything, I'd be too afraid to eat it or serve it to my kids. However, if you're married to my husband, *he'd* eat it (and did, when we lost power for several days a few years back)...he refused to let me toss it so I stuck that stuff in his own personal corner of the newly cleaned freezer and nobody else touched it. He's lived to tell the tale, for whatever that's worth, but I'd never do it! :-)

If the meat is still cold to the touch and its not a huge amount I'd still eat it. It would be no different than thawing it out in the sink or fridge. If its warm to the touch CHUCK IT!
As long as the breads didn't get inundated with meat juices they should be ok; its BREAD FFS! Its not going to magically sprout mold as soon as it thaws out.
What about bread & bagels that were on the door? Ok if we use them within the next few days? I'm so grossed out by this!!
The meat thing really makes me mad because my ILs just give us thus random meat that we don't ever eat and THAT'S the meat that has ruined everything. I'm also annoyed with DH but I can't be too mad because he was trying to do a good thing by prepping dinner.
