Yep, it just slides around. We've managed to go 3 yrs with DD with only having 1 fall off the changing table incident and that had nothing to do with the pad being mobile. We'll do the same with kid 2, though I might cut off 1 strap & staple the other to the back of the dresser... since the buckles dent up the top of the dresser.
It slid around a little bit, but not too much. My daughter's never fallen off though. When she was older (about two until she potty trained at 2.5) we mostly changed her on a blanket on the floor.
We used a non-dresser for DS. I don't remember it sliding. This time we just bought a change mat and will use the bed or floor. Last time thats where we ended up changing DS most of the time so thats why we not bothering this time.
Ours had a strap that you could screw to the back of the dresser for safety. It did slide around a bit, but we didn't have to worry about it falling off.
We were going to get a tray but talked to several moms who felt it was unnecessary, especially as baby grows longer.
This is what we decided, too. So we just have the changing pad sitting on top of his dresser. It's not like we'll be leaving him unattended, so we're good with it. I do like the ideas of a non-slip placemat under it though!
We are using a dresser with a changing pad on top. I don't have the changing pad yet to try it out. If it slides around I will put that grippy stuff used in cupboard or under rugs. I can't think what it's called. I put this stuff under my rug in the hallway & it doesn't slide anymore. I just laid it on the floor, laid the run over it and we don't have problems anymore.
We screwed in the safety strap thing to the back of our dresser, and also attached a piece of velcro to the front, because the changing pad is almost the same size as our dresser top, so we wanted it to be really secure.
For DD, we just put a pad on top of a regular dresser and had it secured in the back with some special straps and screws. It did not slide around and the straps didn't interfere with my being able to change the cover on the changing pad to wash it, etc.
We removed it when DD was out of diapers, but I think we'll be moving that dresser into the baby's room and reattaching the changing pad.
