Around what age do kids figure out how to feed themselves with a spoon? Things like yogurt, applesauce, etc. my DS is 14 months - he pretends with the spoon, but he's nowhere close to actually doing it. I'm starting to feel guilty sending all these spoonable foods to daycare everyday.
Dd (18 mo) uses a spoon with fair to middling success. She has to wear a bib though, because omg stuff goes everywhere. She now demands " 'ogurt" and a "'ib" simultaneously. I found blueberry yogurt in Our goldens retriever's fur last week.
Forks are entirely a new thing. She's stab food, bring it up half way, pluck the food off of the fork with her hand and then put it in her mouth.
At 14 months he's spending a lot of time holding utensils. He'll start using a spoon, and then get lazy.
Last night he ate almost all of his ravioli with his fork. I was impressed. He did hold the fork really low by the prongs, but whatever.
I serve yogurt on top of pancakes or mixed with Cheerios/raisins to make it easier to scoop. He's getting the hang of it, but I assume as the other posters say above, he'll be much more coordinated in a few months.
DS "got it" around 15 months, got 75% of the food in his mouth by 22 months, and now at 26m we're just getting random dribbles. Hopefully at some point it will be mess-free. So what, like age 25 right?

Dd demanded to use a spoon at 12 months, she is much better now at 14 months, but still needs work She eats cottage cheese, yogurt and applesauce with it
C likes to hold a spoon in one hand while shoveling food in her mouth with the other. She also uses a fork like a hair brush. Clearly we've got a ways to go.
