I wasn't planning on introducing myself here until we have heartbeat confirmation due to some nervousness on my part regarding a previous loss, but I'm hoping someone on here might have some advice for me! Before I get to the question, I have one daughter who is a year and a half and I'm about 5w1d currently. I don't have an ultrasound with my RE until the week of 5/26 but my betas have been good, so I'm hoping that we'll get good news at that appointment.
I'm wondering if anyone has advice regarding morning sickness that is brought on by smells? I realize this is probably a silly question, but I had no MS with my daughter, whereas I've already been sick 3 times today. I work in a hospital and there are plenty of smells that seem to be triggers for me. They're basically unavoidable but I don't know what else to do other than keep a mint in my mouth at all times. Has anyone else dealt with this? I also found out that my thyroid numbers were high, so I had to start levothyroxine which I take 1 hour before breakfast in the morning. That has been a challenge as well, so I think I'm going to start setting my alarm for 5:00 and then going back to sleep so that once I'm up I can actually eat something.

Smells aggravate MS for sure. I don't know how to stop the super-smeller, but dealing with MS has helped.
This is what works for me:
1) Sea bands. They don't stop my vomiting, but help relieve the constant nausea. 2) Ginger, if I can stomach it. 3) Unisom + B-complex at night. Some woman can get this as a script, but you can make it yourself. I need to take a whole unisom tablet (regular unisom, not Max), but it really helps with the nausea and vomiting. I tried to cut back last week with horrible consequences. So even though I can still smell cigarettes at 1000 feet, I don't gag when I do. The Unisom does, unfortunately, leave me very tired.
Hopefully your MS will pass quickly! I hear it's possible!

Congratulations!!! How did I miss this on GP!?!? Sounds like everything is going well between the betas and your MS!
I don't have much advice on the smell-induced MS. I had that very badly a couple weeks ago and just tried to go with it. It's calmed down the past week or so and hopefully will do the same for you as well. Stick to whatever works for you even if that means you have to have a mint in your mouth (or gum) all day.
As for the thyroid meds, I also take those and asked my RE about what to do because I was waking up in the middle of the night hungry (and it was keeping me awake). She said that I could eat so I guess there's some flexibility there. I do think that trying to set your alarm early to take the meds is a good idea but if it affects your sleep too much maybe try to just go 30 minutes without eating (instead of an hour).
Wishing you all the best and a very happy and healthy 9 months!
They help, but don't always prevent the nausea and vomiting. Small, frequent meals/snacks with protein help. If I let myself get hungry, it's over. Congrats
Thanks, everyone. I'm going to stock up on mints, gum, and ginger drops and will make sure I focus on small frequent meals.
luv2rn4fun You didn't miss it, I didn't announce over there or TTTC because I was waiting to get through betas, then it was so close to mother's day, and quite honestly, I didn't want to add sting to anyone's day I know how hard announcements can be and felt like it might sting more because we seemed to find our med mix quickly this time and there are so many that have been trying SO much longer than me.
Welcome. I carry a small tupperware with coffee beans in it. Smelling the unground coffee beans clears my nose of other smells. It is as close as I am getting to coffee until baby arrives.
No advice for MS, but congrats on the pregnancy! I recognize you from TTTC. I am happy for everyone here, but it's especially good to see ladies from that board here!
Welcome and congrats! I read that putting some vanilla extract (if that's a smell you can handle) under your nose can help block out other smells. Smell wasn't much of an issue for me in the 1st tri so I have not first hand knowledge of if this will help or not, but couldn't hurt to try.
