I want to start taking a probiotic, both for my own digestive health and to ward off yeast since I worry about thrush while bf. Does it matter what kind I get? I just assumed all probiotics were basically the same thing, not realizing there are different strains (?). I ordered Culturelle from Amazon and it just arrived. It says it has 10 billion cells of lactobacillus gg, but now I'm looking at something from the lactation consultant that says acidophilus. Does it make a difference?
My midwife recommended Femdophilus while I was pregnant. I bought it on Amazon. Well, actually, I bought it at Whole Foods first, but it was half the price on Amazon.
I take this one www.jamiesonvitamins.com/2699 and I've found it works really well for me, but it may be a trial and error thing. I like that it doesn't have to be refrigerated.
eta: it's a 4 strain probiotic with Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium, Streptococcus thermophiles and Lactobacillus delbrueckii

Multi-strain are normally better as are refrigerated since live bacteria are better than the dead bacteria. If you can't get live, then the dead are better than nothing as they act as food for the live bacteria already in your digestive system. The refrigerator kind will repopulate your digestive system.
