Maybe this is better suited to a randoms thread, but I didn't immediately see one. I am shopping for a friend's new baby and just saw that the adorable board books I want to get her are also available on the Kindle. Do people really read Kindle books to their BABIES? Weird.
I can understand the convenience at times as pp noted when you don't want to bring all the books traveling. Aren't there apps though that will read the books to them too? My SIL uses this for bedtime stories with her kids.
We're still old fashioned over here, though, especially because DD3 loves the lift a flap books and turning the pages.
What would the people on the plane rather do? Judge me for keeping my kid quiet with an electronic device or judge me for having a screaming child interrupting their conversations, book or sleep?

Ooh! Reading books to them? If there is one- I'd love to have the app!
Several Dr. Seuss books are available as apps for the iPad. they go on sale occasionally. They will read the whole story and turn pages, read the story and the child turns the pages, or the story can be used like a book. I was amazed by how well they were done.
If you look at the drop down, it is only available on certain Kindle devices. The non only-e-reader ones/touch screen (Kindle Fire, windows tablet, iPad etc...).
And if you watch the video, that's what a 'kindle' board book is like.
It's totally obvious that kid's books would be interactive, but I had no idea they did this. That's pretty cool!
Okay, I am somewhat enlightened, but I still think there's value to a good old board book that a 9-month-old can chew and drool all over. I don't think a kid that age would be entertained by an electronic device on a plane for long, arch01.
starting around a year my kid really liked the Sandra Boynton books on our kindle fire. They are interactive with music, movement, etc. and it reads the story to her.
A better question is why wouldn't there be Kindle editions of board books. I buy the youth eBooks for my library. I make sure to get board books. I also check them out to share with C.
Yes, we have a house full of age appropriate books and always will. But, reading to and with kids is what's important. I don't really care if people do that with books, eReaders, or like us a combination. Our babies are growing up in a technological world, why shelter them from it?

No one's saying there's not value to a regular board book, people are saying that there's value to e-book versions. If we would've had our Kindle when DS was 9m old we definitely would've read to him using it given certain times and places.

My almost 9 month old loves to chew and drool on my iPhone and kindle, lol.
I actually haven't bought any ebooks for her yet, but probably will because books are expensive here.
hermione reminds me I I should look for baby ebooks at my library.
