I'm not proud to admit this since it seems like such a breeze for 99.9% of the people on this board but I can't for the life of me figure out how to use the Moby wrap. And I suck at getting her positioned correctly in the Ergo. Maybe she is too small (7.5 lbs, maybe 8) or maybe I'm just dense. Is there a carrier for newborns that is easier or should I just practice and watch more instructional YouTube videos? I seriously feel so dumb!!!
I sucked too. I failed miserably with the infant insert for the ergo. I finally can wear him in the moby and ergo but it didn't go smoothly until a couple weeks ago.
I failed at the Moby too, but MH was able to get the hang of it with videos. I've seen some mention of the ktan being easier but I'm not sure if there is a minimum weight.
Keep trying, keep watching videos and reading directions. Sometimes you get them in there just right, sometimes something's off and it takes practice to be able to identify those things. Sometimes baby's in a mood and just doesn't want to play along. Again, baby has to practice too.
I got better at it once ds was sitting up and I could do the sling styles where the legs come out at the bottom, baby sits on the sling like a hammock or swing...it was awesome, like having a third arm holding the baby. I still was no expert, but it was still a great improvement over lugging a baby around with an actual arm, lol.

I never got great at the moby and DH hated it with a passion. I only ever used it around the house. I am going to try it again with the next one, but we shall see.
Are you trying to use the infant insert with the Ergo? I did not use the insert and therefore did not use the Ergo until DD was larger. I had more luck with a ring sling when she was smaller.
Have you tried to find a local babywearing group? They should be able to help you out if you have one. It does take some practice, but if you get trying you should get better at it. I would not give up on it yet.
+1. I even had trouble with the Ktan, even though she loved it and instantly stopped crying while I wore her. I never felt like I had her in there correctly. I returned it, but I really want to wear her. I need to try the Beco, Ergo, and Tula.

I didn't care for baby wearing. With my DD I had a Baby Bjorn and I might have used it half a dozen times (DH used it more than I did). I bought a Beco for my DS and, while the carrier was fairly comfortable, I still didn't love wearing him. I only used the Beco when the stroller or shopping cart wasn't an option.
A few people here have called me the babywearing expert. Aaaand I suck at wrapping. I just do. The Moby made me cry and I'm getting my woven wrap converted to a mei tai because I just can't wrap. I lack spatial awareness.
Buuuut even though I can't wrap, I still have an absurd amount of carriers and options!
For the newborn phase I would suggest a ring sling or mei tai.

The only way I could use the Moby is if my sister put it on me. It was too complicated and if it took more than 2 tries, I couldn't be bothered. I ain't got time for that!
With DS2 I started using the Beco, which is so much simpler!
Since you have an ergo, try rolling up a receiving blanket and putting it under the baby then frogging her legs. There is a youtube video on how to do it. I never used my infant insert with my 2 summer babies.
I only had success with the k'tan the first week once ds stretched out he hated that. I tried the ring sling with dd and she went ballistic. Dd hated to be worn, some kids don't like it. She only tolerated back carry in the ergo and that was from like 14-17 months. Ds still allows me to front carry every once in awhile at a yr old.
What helped me with the moby was laying it out on my bed and taking each piece at a time. Tucking one end the waist to wrap the other side and just pulling tight.

I couldn't even figure out the K'tan when A was a newborn. A Moby would have been a disaster. It's not just you. I didn't really get into a groove until A was 3 months old and I finally found a carrier that worked for both of us.
The Ergo works better when there are two people. If it's just you, then loosen the shoulders just a tad, get her IN the darn thing, then do the neck buckle so she won't fall out. Then reach in there and position her the right way. THEN tighten the shoulders so she stays put.
I think at that weight you need the newborn insert or a rolled towel for the Ergo.
I loved the moby especially b/c I had a January baby in the Northeast, felt like it gave him an extra level of warmth. I watched a few YouTube video's and had my mom help me several times before even attempting to put him in it. Biggest mistakes in the beginning were not wrapping tightly enough and starting too low on my waist/hips.
But after a few tries it became easy for me. I eventually upgraded to an Ergo which I still love!
