we have one more week of school!!! I'm thrilled with the upcoming summer, but I sort of want to go back in time and kick myself for agreeing to teach summer camp in June. It's only half days and they pay me well, so it's worth it, but it'd be nice to have no obligations.
Also, I've just wrapped my head around the fact that DD is going to need both summer and winter clothes for 9 months, since we'll be in Australia. Does this mean she'll need shoes (socks will not be warm enough, so is that what people do for babies in the winter?)? Do 9 month olds even wear shoes?
We probably won't know anything until this afternoon.
But in the meantime, here's a total AW picture of our new house! We had our walk through today (actually still at it, but OMG I don't care about sprinklers) and close on Wednesday!
Yeah we probably are but I feel like we've made it this far. He's only been crawling for 12 days. He'll figure out either how to get back in himself or to stay in, right? He's sleeping in a crib in the hotel this weekend, woo hoo!

Is the idea they learn independence? So that when they are walking they will want to stay?
I had major sleep issues when I was younger and all the reading about kids learning to put themselves to sleep and bed not being a punishment hit home to me. Plus I remember my little sis climbing out of her crib all the time. I know it's controversial so I try not to talk about it on here. BUT he has most mornings since he's been crawling crawled over to his stuffed animals and entertained himself for a while while I've showered so that's been a plus. I own the craziness of it and might but a crib at any time but for now I'm just rolling with it. :-)

M completely lost his mind when we got home last night. Crying and whining non stop. One of the few times I was happy I only have about 1 1/2 hours with him before he goes to bed.
A friend has a 8 week old and is a single mom. Dad is completely out of the picture. Her mother is going to be moving here to help once she goes back to work but for the last couple weeks she has 100% been on our her own ( no more visiting family and friends helping). She is amazing. Totally rocking at being a mom, calm, completley unphased by the whole thing, doesn't seem to be bothering her that she 100% it. It is so amazing to see. Makes me realize what a wuss I am - see comment above.
I mentioned a few weeks back that we're officially cloth-diaper dropouts. I listed my whole pockets lot on Craigslist for $300, thinking I'd be lucky to get that. Well, I've already received four responses this morning. Maybe I asked too little! I don't care, because if it's this easy to sell them, I'm happy. Since I'm such a sale hound, I think my actual cost was maybe $400. I'm OK with a 25% depreciation over 18 months of use.
I have a had a good stretch of my 7 week old only waking once at night to eat. She generally sleeps 9:30-3, nurs, and sleeps 4-6:30. Soooo different than ToddlerB.
I realized how MM/cheap I can be yesterday-I had to return a gift at Gymboree and I had a 28 dollar credit. For 28 bucks I got a 3-6 month outfit and a pair of underwear. What really killed me was that the outfit is almost IDENTICAL to one I got at Walmart (their Carter's line) for. $7.94. At Gymboree it was "on sale" for $19.
I can't bring myself to spend that on an outfit she will wear for 2 months. Not unless it is for pics, a holiday, or a birthday (and even then her grandparents would probably get it).
I can't remember the last time I spent more than like $15 on osmething from Gymboree. They're always having sales and he clearance racks usually have in season or just out of season clothing and I find good deals there.
And it's definitely held up better than the Target/WalmartCarter's stuff. I've thrown away like 4 onesies recently that had holes with minimal wear and weren't worth fixing.
I only buy Gymboree on sale (and real sale, which I guess is technically clearance, not their faux "these jeans are only $20 today, but will be back up to their ridiculous $35 price tomorrow" "sales"), and with coupons.
CloudBee when is Atlantis? I am looking at Harborside condos on vrbo and it looks amazing. Can't wait for a trip report
Sept. We're staying at Harborside.
We're in the midst of planning our first baby-free trip for July. Switzerland, Iceland (return for us), and Glasgow are contenders. I'm pushing for Switzerland!
I love Switerland! What area are you looking at? What do you like to do?

DS is doing all day in the baby club today. Yesterday DH got him right before lunch because he thought he would eat and nap better with us. He was upset when he arrived and they said he wanted to get in the stroller and go with the other babies to lunch. Then later in the day, we walked by the babies on a walk and he turned in his stroller straining to look at them. He looked so sad, it was like he knew his group.
So today's a full day. He's never napped in a room with other kids. He has his stuffed animal, but I'm so nervous. We are going to check in at 1:00. On the plus side, DH and I are having a fabulous day!
I don't think the Montessori bed is crazy, but I will say there's definitely a middle ground between "crib as punishment" and Montessori bed. I absolutely do not want E to associate his crib with punishment, so it's never been used as such. Crib is for sleeping, and he's usually happy to go to bed at night. He places his baby doll in there and pats him through the slats, making sleeping noises and saying "night-night." He often happily talks to himself and plays with his stuffed animals in there. Hell, on Sunday the kid did not nap, but he was in his crib for two hours, chatting and singing. So, again, I do not think Montessori beds are crazy, but it is certainly possible to raise a kid with a healthy attitude toward sleep while using a crib.

DD just got out of her sleep sack for the first time. Damn. I turned on the monitor to see her sitting with her legs out and then she got up and darted from one side of the crib to the other. Lol I put her back in it and am hoping for the best.
someone stole my kid and replaced him with one who can sleep! last night was 5 hours, 2 hours, and 1 hour. that means i was only up twice! considering i'm normally up with him 4-8 times a night this is a HUGE deal. and he's been napping in his crib for the last hour and 10 minutes. my kid does not do this ever.
too bad i didn't do anything different so there is no magic formula to repeat tonight.
eta: 90 MINUTES! my kid napped for a whole hour and a half. bonus - my house is now clean

My FIL and SIL are here for the long weekend. DD has her preschool program tomorrow and her dance recital Saturday, the reasons for the visit. My H has left me to entertain them for two days straight while he works, and I am already going crazy. No one talks. Even if I engage them in conversation, they just sort of stare at me or give me one-word responses. It is so awkward. They both just went to take a nap, which means DD is pissed that they aren't playing with her. Why would you fly up here to not speak and sleep through the day? Quality family time, for sure.

B keeps climbing out of bed. I'm this close to dragging the queen mattress from the guest room into his room. Crawling sucks.
Sorry I'm dumb, but why would this help?
It might not but his newest trick is to roll right off the bed into a seated position so I was hoping a larger surface area would stop this. I don't mind him getting out but he whined three times last night for me to put him back in.

I took DD to her second swim class today, and really got along with two of the other moms. We're going to meet up outside class soon for a play date. I'm excited to have mom friends! I only have one

I'm so curious about this in a strictly voyeuristic way. How does it work in the middle of the night? I mean, how do you know he's safe? In theory, once he's toddling, couldn't he get up at 3am and fall and hit his head on the corner of the dresser?
ETA: Or is there no furniture in the room for this reason?
I also agree with catbus . There's an ocean of space between a Montessori bed and the crib being a punishment.

I'm sorry but I don't feel like answering any more questions right now.
I washed and dried my FitBit again. The first time it was while pregnant. This baby has eaten my brain! The first time it was fine after sitting a couple weeks. I doubt it will survive this time.
I think I need to stop drinking milk. J has been so gassy and fussy and spitting up more lately. I've been drinking more milk this week. Might be unrelated, but I kind of doubt it. He doesn't seem to have a problem with cooked milk though, which is good.
