how bad is the gas mileage? I'm especially interested in knowing how bad it is for an AWD Sienna.
I got into a car accident last night, and while there is some reason to be hopeful my car isn't totaled, I think there's a good possibility there is. So now I need to decide if I want to buy the same thing because I love it, or buy a minivan because some day in the future I think we're going to want the extra room. Especially if we ever decide to have a 3rd kid.
Problem being, I have a long commute. The good gas mileage from my AWD Rogue is part of the reason I love the car and makes my 50 mile commute not so bad. I know you can look up mileage claims, but they have never been right for any of my cars so I'd like input from real owners.
I have an Odyssey. The mileage isn't that much worse than my VW Passat, but that car had terrible mileage.
I think we get around 15/16 in the city and 25 or so on the highway. I live in a really hilly area, with lots of lights in weird places on the hills, so if you live somewhere flat i think you'd have better in town mileage.

Same exact thing. We turned in our Passat for an Odyssey, and our van gets better mileage that that crappy Passat. That thing got the same mileage as a Hummer.
I have a 2014 AWD Sienna and I think I'm averaging 15? I only do in town driving with lots of stop and go. I'll check it today when I go out and come back in to update. z
sad to report my car says the average is 13.5 mpg. but again all city driving. AmyRI

I have the FWD Sienna and I get around 22 mpg with a combination of city and highway driving. You will definitely take a fuel efficiency hit with the AWD. I'm of the opinion that AWD is largely unnecessary. If you drive a lot in the snow, buy a set of snow tires.
We have an Odyssey and I think we get around 18 to 20 MPG average. I can get around 350 miles, usually closer to 380, on a tank of gas (and I think its a 17 or 18 gallon tank).
We have an Odyssey, and it isn't much different than our old CRV, low 20's. Our Camry gets better mileage, and DH uses that as his commuter car. I love having the minivan for 3 kids though. It makes my life so much easier.

Actually, this website is very useful. It says my '09 Jetta TDI should get 33mpg combined (city+highway), but I actually get 35mpg. And I am a lead footed driver.
2013 base sienna and I get 22-25 depending on how much I'm on the interstate. I drive a lot (10k in the last 6 mos) and very little is stop and go.
Ooo, this gives me hope. I do more city driving than it sounds like you do, but if I can get 22 on the highway I'll be happy.
I previously had a Hyundai Tucson (like a crv) and I get about 2 miles less per gallon than I did with it. BUT my van is not an awd so I have no idea how much difference that makes. For straight interstate travel we get crazy good mileage (for a van). Like close to 30.
