I posted yesterday that DD's temp was 103.8. She had a rough evening and we ended up in urgent care and she was diagnosed with bilateral ear infections (this is the first time she has had ear infections). The Dr prescribed augmentin, and we gave the first dose last night but she started throwing up about an hour after we gave it.
Any tips on making taking the antibiotic easier for her? I am going to give the morning dose in an hour or two. If she keeps throwing up I think I will call the pedi to see if we can switch it. I plan to have DH pick up a probiotic this afternoon.
Any tips on handling her fever? We have been alternating motrin and tylenol but its not helping much. She was up to 104.0 an hour after tylenol last night. Her temp has been sticking around 103 this morning.
Ugh, this is the first time she has been this sick, its breaking my heart
Poor kid has been crying all morning I did finally get her temp down to 100 so hopefully that will help some. She's getting molars on top of a double ear infection, I feel so bad for her. I just wish there was more I could do.

I hate to be an alarmist , but with a high fever that isn't responding to tyl/mot, I would pay a visit to the ER. And that antibiotic might be too strong for her, maybe they can switch it. ETA my kid has literally been sick since the end of March (thanks daycare) so trust me I feel your pain. It sucks and is very scary.

We must have posted at the same time Her fever is finally responding to the meds so I will probably just keep a close eye on it today. I was able to get her to keep the antibiotic down with applesauce so maybe last night was a fluke. She hasn't peed since she woke up though, so if she doesn't pee soon I will be calling the pedi. This is the first time she has really been sick It sucks.
Just had the same thing this past week; 3 days of high fever until we took him in and found out it was a double ear infection.
DS did fine with augmentin. We always tried to give it just before feeding him, so there was something in his tummy soon after. And we were giving a probiotic as well.
I will say that it took the entire 5 days of treatment before he was back to himself. The fever stayed down, but he was still tired and extra fussy until 5 days later.
I know you said the fever finally responded but for future reference, if I can't get a fever to go down, I give ibu and tylenol at the same time instead of alternating. It usually does the trick. Obviously ibu is q6 and tylenol is q4 so take that into consideration, but I usually have to do it at night and it's enough to get DS to sleep.

I am a bit late, but she needs to really eat with augmentin. It can be very upsetting to the stomach. If she's up to it maybe see if you can get some probiotics in her to prevent diarrhea too. Poor thing. I hope she feels better soon.
We started probiotics tonight. She threw up with tonights augmentin dose, she gags on it as soon as it hits her mouth (which is the same problem we have with food and why she is in speech therapy). I think I will try giving her the med before any food and then feeding her in the morning to see if that makes a difference.
She cried all day and insisted on being held all day. Now we can't get her to sleep in her crib, she wants to sleep on us. We just gave motrin, hoping it will help her feel well enough to sleep in the crib, otherwise it is going to be a very long night because I cannot sleep while holding her and DH uses a CPAP so its not really safe for him to sleep with her.
