My DS (10.5 months) has never been a major bottle drinker. At this point, I nurse him at 8am and 10am, then I go to work and he is with my nanny. He is offered a bottle at 1pm which is almost always refused, and then at 3pm, where he drinks between 1-4oz. He is also eating overnight at around 4am. Basically his schedule is:
4am- nurse 8am- nurse 9am- breakfast 10am- nurse Noon-Lunch 1pm- bottle (offered, but usually refused) 3pm-bottle (drinks 1-4oz) 6pm- dinner 7:30- nurse before bed
I really want to get rid of the 4am session and I am tempted to stop offering the 1pm bottle. I am pumping only once a day at work, which is fine, because he barely drinks any milk while I am away anyway. He is a peanut, probably around 17 lbs, but he eats solids nicely and nurses well when we are together. My question is does this seem normal? My pedi had mentioned that around 10 months he should be down to 3 milk feedings a day, should I push him towards that? I would love to hear others experiences...
I don't think most 10 month olds are down to 3 milk feeds a day. I think most people wait to wean until at least closer to 1, and cutting out milk feeds is weaning.
I'd leave the offer of the 1 pm if you're night weaning and see if he's hungrier by day. The calories need to get in there at some point in the day.
I think my 9 month old nurses about 6 x in 24 hours. Maybe more.
About 5 times a day (7,10,1,3,5,7). She was getting up between 4-5 too, but I just didn't go in once and she hasn't woken again.
Judging from my dd2's interest, we're moving in a direction where I'll just be nursing before her naps and bed sooner then later. She's taken to unlatching and signing eat other times.
Ds was nursing 6-7 times a day at that age, including one around 4-5 am, though we were working on dropping that one. Three seems really low to me and not typical from talking with other moms.

DS is the same age, his schedule,is:
6:30 nurse 8:30 breakfast at daycare 10:30 6 oz bm bottle 12:30 lunch 2:30 6 oz bm bottle 5:30 nurse (shorter duration though, more like an "I missed you while you were at work mom" 6:30 dinner 8:00 nurse and then to bed
Thanks for the replies. I am definitely ready to stop pumping at work - but will continue until a year. At that point do I replace the breast milk bottles with straw cups of WCM? I am happy to nurse when we are together indefinitely.
Before I weaned (at 2) we never got down to three milk feeds a day when I was home. When I was working it was morning, firt thing after work, then bedtime but I would never expect that out of a 10 month old.
3 sessions doesn't seem like enough at 10 months. At that age this was J's schedule 6 nurse 7 breakfast 8 3oz bottle 10 2.5oz bottle 1130/12 nurse 1 lunch 230 3oz bottle 4 nurse after work 6 dinner 7 nurse before bed At least 1-2 nursing overnight. We were biedsharing so I don't exactly how often he was eating versus comfort nursing at night but he was definitely eating at least once. Some of the sessions were definitely short, like the lunch one and after daycare.
He did start skipping the 10 bottle at some point so that may have been gone by 10 mos.
