My coworker showed up to work on Wednesday with what sounded like a really bad cold (sneezing, sniffling, sounded stuffed up).... :-(
I've been sneezing today and blowing my nose a lot since I got home from work today, so I think I'm probably getting a cold now as well.
I'm only 13 weeks (almost 14) so I'm not sure I want to take Sudafed or Mucinex...I was reading that they are Category C and to really only take them if the benefits outweigh the risks, so that makes me leery.
However, colds will often end up turning into bronchitis for me, so I definitely don't want something like that to happen.
Any suggestions on what to take or other remedies?

well, mucinex will only help thin out the mucous - if you don't have that yet, don't take it.
I got sick with a wicked cold when I was only 8 wks along, I took nothing during the day (just drank a loooot of water & blew my nose a lot - I would have used nasal spray if I could handle it) and saved my 'risk' for the night when I needed to sleep. Then, I would take a minimum dose and just deal with it. I took Benedryl (but that just thickened the mucous which was bad too), Mucinex when I could feel it getting really bad and Tylenol when I was in pain.
Honestly though, water & steam showers where about the only non medicinal things I did (well, that and Halls at night).

I had a really bad cold last week. I survived on hot lemon ginger tea with honey, Ricola cough drops, saline nasal rinses, and sleep. It sucked hardcore, but I'm finally better. I really hope this is a short thing for you, it really sucks being sick and pregnant!
After 5 days of hard core congestion and pressure in my head, I just took a Sudafed tonight. My ears just couldn't take anymore. Although, I took the lowest dose without much active ingredient, so I haven't felt any relief.
Some saline nasal spray seems to have helped a little, though.
Tylenol, Benydryl and cough drops. The cough drops helped the most with the sore throat and cough, but I had to alternate between those and life savers, because I was making myself sick with too many cough drops. Also, a lot of tea and honey.
Thanks for all the info! I did a saline nasal rinse, and went out and got some ricola cough drops. I've definitely upped my liquids, and I will probably try some tea tomorrow.
I'm crossing my fingers I can get some good sleep tonight and then wake up tomorrow not feeling worse than I do now! Not sure how likely that will be, but I'm trying to stay hopeful
I had a really bad cold last week. I survived on hot lemon ginger tea with honey, Ricola cough drops, saline nasal rinses, and sleep.
All of this...add in a humidifier, lots of clear liquids (water, gatorade, ginger ale) and sleeping on extra pillows (keeps head elevated). Good luck...we are thinking healthy thoughts for you.
My docs approved meds list included Tylenol cold so that's what I took. I also had a fever with my one cold and that was more concerning to me than any risks forms taking the meds so I stayed on top of them until the fever was gone. That was right around 13 weeks. I had a milder cold last week, no fever and just took Tylenol cold at night to help me get some sleep. During the day I did tea with honey, plenty of fluids and cough drops.
Well Boo, I woke up with a fever this morning of 100.4 degrees F, so I took some tylenol and it has came down to 99.4 which is still not that great
I'm keeping up on my fluids, and am having another cough drop at the moment...I was really really hoping to avoid the fever thing I guess I am just going to take the tylenol per the instructions, and maybe lounge around/take a nap in our sunroom with the fan on (it's pretty cool out today, so it might cool me down a little bit?)
Thanks for the advice everyone - I really appreciate it.
I guess the good news is that I feel so crappy otherwise that I had zero MS this morning, lol :-P
I'm sorry . Sucks. I pretty much just had to ride it out. I will say I ended up with pneumonia, so be aware of that. I had walking pneumonia, so I actually felt okay after the initial cold, except that I was coughing a lot, and eventually wheezing (which prompted me to go to the dr. finally).
