I know this is a little backwards, but I think we've decided on the nickname of Hank (The Tank), which is funny because I'm pretty sure our kid will forever be a scrawny little shrimp. Anyway, I'm not a big fan of Henry, for various reasons. So, I need another H name that can be the more formal name of baby Hank.
So far, I have: Harrison.
That's it, LOL. The requirements - normal spelling and easily recognized/pronounced. Nothing ending in an ey/ie sound, because of our last name. Middle name will be Andrew, if that makes a difference.
I like Harrison. You can pretty much call your baby anything and give it a nickname that's somewhat similar (or not at all), so I wouldn't worry too much about what's the "proper" name associated with Hank. It's usually Henry or Henrik, per Mr. Google, but you don't have to follow that exactly. Look at all the nickname variations of the name Margaret -- Maggie, Madge, Meg, Peggy, etc.
We are in a similar boat but with girl names - my husband is set on a nickname but I like a longer name that I think could easily lend itself to the nickname. I think Harrison is a good name and you can totally call him Hank.

I don't see a problem with just naming him Hank if that's what you plan to call him, although Henry is one of my favorite names ever. I also like Harrison.

We are naming our son Charlie. Not Charles, but Charlie. We both really like Charlie but don't want his legal first name to be Charles so we are going against the grain and making a nickname his legal first name.
I say if you really like Hank make his legal first name Hank .
I'm going to go against the grain and say I wouldn't make Hank his legal name. When he is older he may want a "proper" name to put on resumes, etc. I think Harrison nn Hank would be fine. Are you opposed to Henry even as a middle name? Andrew Henry would also be nice and work with a nn of Hank.
I do like the name Hank, but not enough to have it be his one and only official name forever. I just want another option for him, should he want to use something a little more formal. The pressure of picking a name is so overwhelming, and I think I'll feel better with a name that has some options.
Sounds like Harrison might be a good option? I do worry about the nn Harry, though. That would be terrible with our last name. Hudson is nice too. I was thinking that we wouldn't look too crazy nicknaming Hank from really any other H name.
We can't do Andrew as a first name because it's a family name. I want to use it as a middle name as a nice gesture, but not to name him exactly after the person. I do love the name Andrew, though.
