This woman made up a dramatic story that is completely made up. Her husband was killed in the other tower, she had a dramatic rescue. She was amazingly embedded in all of the survivor networks and was elected president of one at times.

6 years later it finally unraveled.
Wow.. Did she receive money??
I don't think directly in terms of a survivor pay out, but I'm sure she got perks/positions as a well spoken and very visible survivor.
It's on my list and I really want to watch it, but I still have such a hard time with all things 9/11 related. Even though the personal loss I experienced was Pentagon related, not two towers related, watching something about that tragedy simply crushes me.

I watched this also, it was so weird. She really sold that story, worked out the tears and everything. I felt so bad for the people she duped who had really suffered.

Well this post made me watch it. We are about 1/2 way through. This women is CRAZY.
On one hand, while it doesn't at all justify her lies, I hope at least the (fake?) strength she showed helped others in some way and gave them hope that they could get through the initial pain during those first few years while they learned to live their new lives.

Yeah, I watched it and it was fascinating and disturbing. I think I had remembered hearing something about that situation when it happened, but I didn't know all the details until I saw the doc.
Yesss, one of the best docs I've seen. It's just so incredible how she fooled so many people. I think she was so good at the lie that she ended up believing it.

I agree. She loved the attention so much at first, but then I think even she had a hard time distinguishing between reality and her lies.
