To celebrate Norway's national day over the weekend (celebrating 200 years! Hip hip hurrah!), the next bi-weekly Travel Photo PIP theme is:
Festivals & Holidays
Show us the celebrations you've attended around the world! From Holy Week to Holi and La Tomatina to Tomato Art Fest, share some photos of the festivals and holiday celebrations that you've attended!

The first two are from Semana Santa in Sevilla of the pasos (the elaborate floats). They were the only 2 photos I could get as the mobs were insane.
This is the Macarena-a very big deal in Sevilla
This is the gate outside of Feria in Sevilla (Feria is unique to Sevilla and takes place 2 weeks after Semana Santa and is 2 weeks of fun-dancing, partying, eating, drinking, etc)
The next two are from Dia de los Muertos in Mexico. They're of some of the ofrendas that the kids made at the place where I was working.
And this was a really cool Dia de los Muertosdisplay at the Palacio Nacional in Mexico City showing some of the country's most famous independence leaders

Indian Independence Day 2012- we had a small rooftop ceremony and did a balloon release
Ganesh Chaturthi Mumbai 2012
This is the most popular Ganesh idol in the city- people wait in line for days to be able to touch the idol. We went on the 3rd night and spent a good 30 minutes in line just to see the idol- the following night it was 2+ hours!
Final night of the festival in Bandra
Navratri- I missed the actual festival by a few days but I did get to see the idols being prepared
The Mission Inn Festival of Lights 2013 (its the day after thanksgiving)
I have a lot from Mexico. There is always some sort of celebration or fest going on there.
Xochimilco: Canals in Mexico City. On the weekends, it is packed with people having fun & celebrating. I don't even know how to explain it, but it was so much fun. There were food boats, mariachi boats, drink boats. Crazy crowded, but a really good time.
Another one from Xochimilco, right before the canals.
Callejoneada in Guanajuato. Street performers would lead around groups of people while they sang and told stories.
Weekly performance on the plaza in Merida. In every town in Mexico, there was always some kind of performance on the plaza.
Parade during a gaucho festival in San Antonio de Areco, Argentina.
Yi Peng Festival in Chiang Mai Thailand. I know I have posted photos from this festival before, but I am posting again. It was one of my favorite travel experiences ever.
We were in Avila, Spain a couple years ago on Epiphany. Didn't realize it was a holiday, but this tiny sleepy town totally came alive with a big parade - people dressed up, bands, floats, all kinds of stuff.
