We took the hospital-offered child birth class last week. It was pretty good--a lot of information to digest, but overall still feels manageable. We did the express version, so it was 6 hours total, split into two evenings. The regular one is 12 hours and I don't think I could have handled that.
Of all the topics the nurse discussed, the husbands were most hung up on episiotomy. They kept asking questions and requesting reassurances. I just wanted the class to move on. In the end we spent a good 20 minutes just going over this one topic when the nurse had planned on only spending 2 minutes on it. H was green around the gills by the end of it. He said the episiotomy discussion gave him the heebie jeebies and he doesn't ever want to talk about it again. lol. I guess I could see why the husbands are so concerned. But really, it seems minor compared to some of the other issues.
Just thought I'd share. If you have taken a child birth class, did you like it?

Lol, interesting. I guess they maybe equate it to having their own bits cut on, which I think we all know would be a no-go, lol.
We do our class in two weeks, and I'm curious as to how it will be. The infant CPR/choking was very good, very informative, so I hope the other classes for which we are registered are, as well. We, too, did the one-day eight-hour class rather than the eight-week series.
My husband is still pissed off that I had an episiotomy. I had to due to a vacuum birth. The episiotomy led to 3/4th degree tears that are still an issue 11 years later. That is "their" area. I get it.
I'm curious, did they say why or how often they do it? I don't know any girl that's had one but I know plenty that ripped and I always wondered at what point the Dr did it.
(I know why they do it but didn't know if it's just up to the Dr to do one)
We went to a childbirth class last time, and was glad we attended. From what I remember we were there one evening, and then some the next day. We watched two different videos, one of a vaginal delivery and one of a c-section. One dude got up and left during the c-section one, it was pretty amusing.
I did have an episiotomy, not sure why specifically. My doctor thought it was best (I did have a big baby) so we went with it. I think it freaked my husband out a little to watch it. I guess he didn't realize I couldn't feel it since I had had an epidural.
