Sorry, for another one of these threads, but I'm hoping someone has an awesome idea.
I'm looking for a flight 4 hours or less from London, somewhere we can go for up to 4 days (including weekends), has some culture, city to explore and good food. We'd be going in the middle of July. The real catch is that I'm also trying to visit all of the countries in Europe and I'm about half way through, so most of the countries I'm left with are smaller or harder to get to.
I'm contemplating:
Luxembourg for 2 days
Flying in/out of Barcelona to drive over to Andorra for a day trip for 3 days
Zurich/Lichtenstein for 3-4 days
Or I also found cheap flights to Marrakesh (going 4 days) during this time, but I'm thinking it's going to be waaaay too hot to go in July.
I loved Luxembourg, but I think it was nicer in the fall, because we went primarily for wine touring.
Have you been to all of northern Europe? If I was traveling in July, I'd try to use it in the north, since the season is so short and it can be so hot farther south.
Alternatively, since it's a shorter trip, what about visiting one of the places where there may not be as much to see or do? Belarus? Azerbaijan? Macedonia? Albania? Did you ever take the trip to Moldova? (Please share a recap if you did! I'd love to go to Moldova!)
I would go to the Pyrenees. I'm not sure how much of Andorra overlaps with that, but the main towns I can think of are on the French side.
However, I agree with GilliC that Northern Europe would be a better bet (although the towns I was interested in visiting in the Pyrenees last year were still too cold for me in spring). Have you been to Copenhagen?
All of northern Europe is done or booked for travel this year.
I've been to Croatia and Portugal. I didn't get to make it to Moldova last winter because a friend came in to town and I'd like to save it for fall or winter.
I'll look into Belarus, Azerbaijan, Macedonia and Albania though. I think Istanbul might be too hot, but that's totally on my list too. Good tip on wine tasting in the fall in Luxembourg too. Maybe I'll push that off till then.
Google docs won't let me copy the list of places I have left from my phone, but thank you for helping me brainstorm!
